TOWARDS A BETTER NIGERIA; FIVE (5) AREAS THAT NEEDS URGENT IMPROVEMENT

in Hive Naija18 days ago (edited)

Change is the only constant in life because life is dynamic in nature and things keeps evolving. I believe that the progress of a town, city or nation lies in the hands of its inhabitants (dwellers) because it's as good as it's citizens. I believe that the glorious days of the past can be restored back for Nigeria my dear country which I'm proud of and we can move to better days ahead if:

IF THERE IS BETTER PUBLIC ACCOUNTABILITY BY OFFICE HOLDERS
Lack/insufficient public accountability by our leaders has really affected us negatively because only responsible leaders who truly loves and serves his/her people can do this. Leadership right from family level to town/city level to states/national levels must be accountable because this will limit or reduce the corruption/misappropriation malady that befell my dear country. The immunity clause in our constitution given to our leaders especially in the public office space should be reviewed and not confused with accountability to the citizens who elected them in and gave them the privilege of serving us.

REVENUE GENERATION BY THE STATES/LOCAL GOVERNMENT AND EACH TOWN/CITY
The monthly federal allocation sharing to the states must be reduced if not removed with each states and local governments with the various towns/cities under them to generate revenue themselves. In the past, some towns/cities were known for some specific/special crafts, trades, occupation etc which were major economy boost for them and a potential for the nation but which are now neglected. For example, here in my state and town, we are known for tie and dye cloth merchandise of national/ international reputation. Towns/cities and local/states governments must move from monthy collector to monthly investor.

IMPROVED RURAL ACCESSIBILITY
Rural areas like small towns, villages, settlements needs improved accessibility in terms of good roads linking them to major town/cities. The truth is that rural areas are the hub of agricultural, raw materials and other resources cultivation while the urban areas are the market places for effective commercialization. This linking up will help accessibility and makes for economy boost. Also, social welfares/amenities needs to be improved in rural areas too e.g. good school, healthcare facilities etc

HARNESSING NATURAL RESOURCES
Each town/city and state in Nigeria is blessed with at least a natural resource whether tapped or untapped. The crude oil boom which marks a total turn around for Nigeria wasn't well managed which led to other natural resources been neglected. If natural resources are well harnessed, there will be availability of raw materials and hence, the manufacturing sector will function at optimum. There is need for strict enforcement against illegalities as regards natural resources e.g. oil bunkering, illegal minning etc.

DIVIDENDS OF DEMOCRACY ARE WELL DISTRIBUTED
Nigeria is a democratic nation and the beautiful thing about democracy is the dividends that comes with it. Part of the dividends includes government providing basic facilities and amenities to the citizens like good healthcare facilities, educational institutions and so on. These dividends arises from the taxes and levies imposed on the citizens and hence, must be well distributed. But if otherwise due to selfishness, corruption, greed etc, this really has a negative toil on the citizens. This also cut across towns/cities aswell.

TOURISM/AGRICULTURE/ELECTRIFICATION IS IMPROVED
Here in my town and state in Nigeria, tourism has contributed alot as it has attracted national/international presence with UNESCO heritage sites, waterfalls, war sites, grove etc all present and needs to be improved on for efficiency. Agriculture is the mainstay of my people here which i believe if more sophisticated can lead to a massive boom and turn around. Installation of street lights, state electricity generation and rural electrification are all important aswell.

These are the things i believed if improved will lead to an improvement in my town and my country at large. Thank you for reading. This is my participation post in #Aprilinleo monthly prompt for day 25 by the #inleo. Check out this announcement post to get involved.* THUMBNAIL DESIGNED USING CANVA

Nigerian leaders really lack accountability and honesty in their dealings. Sadly not just the leaders even amongst the masses.

The earlier we review our constitution the better for us. Because I honestly hate that "immunity clause"

Unless we are able to keep all sentiments aside, it will not be easy for us to vote leaders who will move this country forward.

I believe most of our problems can be solved with a good leader at the hem of affairs.

You have indeed captioned it all with your last statement on "good leadership" which are accountable and held responsible for their actions instead of been immuned from such.

You're welcome

Nigeria can do better, we Nigerians can do better. It's 2024 and I am ashamed that we still don't have a stable power supply. It is well.

Yes, this nation and we it's citizens can do better. We owe this country and must see to it's greatness.
