How I Deal With Peer Pressure

Peer pressure is something almost everyone goes through. friends, classmates, even family are the primary casues of this.

In most cases , it is very clear that when you are dared to do something you are aware is wrong, In other cases , the feeling is not that obvious as you start to feel awkward that you are not doing something that almost everyone is doing, then you start thinking maybe you should do it.

So far as a teenager , i have come to notice that bad habits is not the only thing that should be associated to peer preesure, how you talk, dress, or even the kind of life you live is also part of it. But the funny part is that if you develop the habit of always letting others make decision for you , you will gradually lose your voice and self. You start chasing their approval instead of your own peace of mind.

One way I handle it is by holding onto my values. I ask myself, “If I do this, will I still feel good about it tomorrow?” just by asking myself this one question alone , it will saves me a lot of trouble. If the answer to the question does not sit well with me or my moral, then I just don’t do it. Not minding if i am the the only one.

Being around people who respect my choices is what i try to do. A real friend won’t push you to go against what you believe in. They might not agree all the time, sure, but they won’t make you feel stupid for saying no.

Confidence helps too. If you keep hesitating, people will keep pushing until you break. But when you stand firm, they usually stop.

Saying no isn’t always easy though. Sometimes you get that fear of missing out. Sometimes you don’t want to be the “boring” one. But I’ve learned it’s way better to miss one party than to regret something for years.

End of the day, it’s your life. You’re the one who deals with the results of your choices, not them. So choose carefully, stay true to yourself, and remember saying no can be one of the strongest things you ever do.

This is a food for thought. We should always calculate what we do now, then check if you could be proud of that act by tomorrow.

The worst thing that will happen to someone isn't always FAILURE. It's simply REGRETS from past intentional or unintentional undoings. @favbae

I learnt this a long time ago that our decisions shouldn't be based on what someone tells us,it should be from a place of our personal convictions
