Cultural continuity: Navigating cultural values for the next Generation

in Hive Naijalast month

Funny how we give away our culture for other people's culture, we even go on to criticize those who practice our culture, we even recommend foreign cultures to others than ours. The school system is also part of the problem when it comes to the discontinuity of our culture, they make the study of foreign languages compulsory while forgetting their mother's tongue.

The parents are also contributing to that problem as you'll wonder how a child who was brought up in a society, goes to school in the society but can't speak the native language. We all have to know that we have a role to play in keeping our culture.

Firstly, our language is a vocal representation of our culture, constantly speaking in our local language with my kids and grandkids will make them learn gradually. Kids are always quick to learn languages, it will be easy to communicate with them at that early stage.

Many standard schools make sure they compress their culture in the curriculum, like languages and extra culture activities. I would put my children through which will make them more serious in learning their culture. They can be involved in cultural dance, spoken words, traditional idioms and so on.

Attending cultural activities like traditional marriages and cultural festivals in which these activities are carried on. In my state, the last month of the year is always used for cultural activities, since they're 31 local government Areas in my state, Akwa ibom state, each day throughout the whole 31 days in the month will be used by each local government. Each local government has their presentation, telling us more about their culture, their food, their attire and also went on to prepare their meals. They had presentations of their cultural dance and so on.

People are always out in their numbers to celebrate with them and learn more about their culture, this act by the state will encourage the continuity of our Culture.

I love how you tackled those easily swayed people with other people's culture. The thing dey vex me.

Btw, are you from the East?
The masquerades remind me of my experience there

Btw, are you from the East?

I'm from the south(south-south).

They take people's culture on their head😅
