Mantis; a movie i have been anticipating for a couple of weeks before it came out some days ago. I was just scrolling through the list of movies that will be released on Netflix that very week when i stumbled upon MANTIS; i was forced to take a pause when i saw the cover picture and the brief write up attached to it. Then i decided to watch the trailer, watching the trailer of the movie actually gave me goosebumps, and that was as a result of the brutal killings and the extreme action it has. At first I thought it was a Hollywood movie, only for me to look closely and realized the movie was a korean movie…
Honestly, i didn’t really care about the country that produced and acted in the movie, i was more focused on the action than the actors, and expected them to deliver to me a mouth full experience, but deep down i kinda wished it was a Hollywood movie. The only thing that consoled me made me decided to give it a go was CARTER. Catar was epic, the level of action that was in that korean movie was incredible. I was less concerned about the bloody scenes and was more focused on the action. So seeing how carter turned out to be a great movie for me made me decided to give MANTIS a chance. Mantis happened to be a movie about assassins and the rules and regulations tied to their Job…
I read the movie about and immediately second guessed the movie. I honestly wanted to take a pass on this one but then i was feeling a bit reluctant because this was how i exactly felt about carter that year. It’s been over two years since i saw that movie and till this moment i still remember every aspect of the movie very clearly. I owe this to the lead actor of the movie and the non stop action scenes in it. I didn’t want to miss out on this because of my doubts, so I decided to give it a try, and moreover the lead actor and actress are quite familiar. They also have the looks, which happens to be a quality i look out for in movies before streaming them…
Looks is a big deal for me when it comes to movies. After the whole second guessing and whatnot, i decided to take the leap of faith and set a reminder…
HOW IT ALL WENT DOWN…
If only i knew the level of disappointment it would bring me, I wouldn’t have wasted my time, internet and energy on a movie like that. I thought it would be a great movie like carter, but guess what?, this movie was a big turn off for me…
The movie starred great casts but it lacked purpose. I had high expectations from the movie but ended up getting disappointed at the end. The movie had no purpose at all. Although the actions were top notch, the fight battles were epic, and mouth watering, but then it felt so incomplete for so many reasons…
If only I knew how incomplete it would leave me beforehand, I would have definitely skipped it, but then the action scenes were just something too good to pass off on. Honestly, this is it for me, i think it’s high time i gave up on Korean movies. Movies not dramas, they are a big turn off. I think they should just stick to their romcoms and the likes. They should leave this aspect for the PROs in the Hollywood industry, the likes of Jason Statham, Tom Cruise, The Rock and so on. They are the best deal for this type of movie…
Honestly, I’d rate this movie a 4/10. That’s how bad it is for me. The 4 awarded to it was because of the fighting scenes and nothing else. I am never settling for a purposeless movie like this anymore…
