It is the 65th Independence Day for my beloved nation, and I am immensely proud that it has been 65 years since we gained our independence from way back in 1960. This goes to prove that we have overcome a whole lot as Nigerians and as a country, which has strengthened our unity as a nation in the midst of all the hardship.
One thing is for sure: I have had my fair share of talking about the hardship I currently face as a citizen living in the country. Starting with the increase in my rent by my landlord, down to the recent writing about the introduction of the new tax rule that kicks off in January 2026. I would not lie, it has not been a rosy ride, but I have to admit as well that there have been highs as well.
Starting with the people. The Nigerian people are the best when it comes to celebrating their tribe and embracing their diversity. It does not matter where you are from, and even above all, the colour of your skin, we do not even have a reason to look at anyone for sure. Nigerians will surely welcome you. Another angle is the food. No matter where you go in this life, I cannot help but tell you I will give up on Nigerian food. Never! That can never happen when my tongue has touched the flavours of smoked jollof, amala and ewedu, vegetable soup, rich egusi, and many more.
I do not want to know where I am, but if I cannot lay my hands on some nice Nigerian meal, I have to settle for making it myself. Another high that has given us a reason to celebrate recently as a nation is the victories of our soccer queens and basketball goddesses, that is, the Super Falcons and the D'Tigress. The Super Falcon won the African Women's Cup of Nations, and it was a thing of joy for all Nigerians scattered around the globe. I still remember how excited I was that day it happened. Joy running through my veins, and it was so nice to be a Nigerian on that day.
Then, not too long after, the female basketball team followed suit. They won the 2025 FIBA Africa. As a basketball lover and huge supporter of this team, it was a win-win for me, and you can see why. Whenever a Nigerian strives on the world stage, it is a source of joy for us all as Nigerians, because these are the little things that keep a smile on our faces while we go through whatever we are going through.
Even though we are faced with hardship, struggle, or insecurity, we still try to put a smile on our faces. These are the things that keep us strong. Tomorrow, we move on with our daily lives, but today, we celebrate our Nation in the midst of its highs and lows.
From all of us at @sam.hangout, we wish all Nigerians a Happy Independence Day. Go ahead and enjoy your week.

Happy Independence Day to everyone at @sam.hangout.
We celebrate this day despite the state of the country. Like you said, the Nigeria people are wonderful and lovers of our diversity. It brings out our beauty as a people.
Not to talk much of the food. The Nigerian delicacy is the best. I will search for it wherever I go.
We're currently faced with a lot sadly. But we hope for a turnaround someday.
Happy Independence day to Nigeria the Journey has not been easy my sincere prayer to Nigeria is God hear all our silent prayer and make Nigeriaa better Nation
Have a happy new month and amazing Independence Day 🇳🇬
Happy Independence Day to our country Naij✨
Hopefully it gets better from here
Overcome? A whole lot? As Nigerians? Sam, are you sure we have?
Every single time I go on X the first thing that greets me is tribalism. They never stop. It moves from X across other social media platforms and even offline. They keep fighting. Are you aware that there’s a fight ongoing in Abia state almost every night. Guess what they’re fighting for? They want to send out all Yorubas. Is that unity?
If I’m being honest, I have no good or bad thing to write about this country. I am just a citizen. Just living and hoping.
I enjoyed reading your post anyway. :)
Just wow. Am Iiving under a rock? I didn’t know this. Infact, there was a chance of me going to Abia state recently, that would have been setting myself as a target in my motherland. Crazy! Thanks for the update.
Yeah I just try to look for the positives. Dollar is dropping but doesn’t change much. You’re right…
Thanks for stopping by.
Seems it's been long you last visited. There's curfew during certain days in the week.
Well, that’s a good thing.
Always a pleasure:)
My mom’s from there. I thought curfews were only on Mondays. Ahhhhhhh.
Where are you from?
I’m from AkwaIbom but I have friends that school at Abia State University. Went for one of them’s sign out and I was terrified of the things I heard in Umuahia at night.
I even hate that side normally. Akwa ibom… hmmmm.
Do you stay there?
Yes I do. Lol.
Happy independence day to Nigeria. Looking forward to when it becomes more of a reality rather than a yearly celebration when talking of a good relationship between those in power and the citizens. We still look forward to a brighter future.
Happy independence Nigeria. That is one thing I love about Nigeria even Nigeria is showing us shege but we still wear that beautiful smile.
Happy Independence Day Everyone.
Happy Independence Dayyyy Everyone
Happy independence to us
Happy independence Day everyone 🇳🇬 there are so much that unit us as a nation than the things that try to divide us.
I wish us all an amazing days for the remaining part of the year.
Happy independence to Nigeria
We can only but hope it gets better because the fight for a better Nigeria is almost too herculean for any generation to succeed. Guess we will have to settle for individual growth because that seems more feasible.
