the world. Also, many people come to visit old Dhaka from other
countries to taste the biriyani who got to know about this traditional
food.

Chef Haji Mohammad Hossain established Haji Biriyani in 1939. He is the founder of this business. After he died in 1992, his son Haji Mohammad Golam Hossain took over the business. And then he continued this business without any changes in the process of making. After some year, Haji Mohammad Golam Hossain became older and tired of running this business and finally overhanded to his son Haji Mohammad Shahed who is the present owner of the business.

It’s become famous then time for its taste. It is not cooked like another biriyani. Usually, biriyani made with some major materials like rice, meat, dahi, etc. Chicken, beef, goat, lamb, prawn used as meat. Soybean oil is generally used for biriyani. The recipe includes highly seasoned rice, chevon, mustard oil, garlic, onion, black pepper, saffron, clove, cardamom, salt, lemon, dahi(yogurt), peanuts, cream, raisin and a small amount of cheese(either cow or buffalo). In other biriyani, they use soybean oil. But in Haji biriyani, they use pure mustard oil which is the main difference. For which it has very nice smell and the taste is incomparable. If you don’t want to eat in their shop and want pack it, you will notice another thing. They will use jackfruit leaves to pack it to give you parcel.

Later on the business took a great change for its taste and became a part of the culture of Dhaka city. Now, People of all ages know the name of ‘Haji Biryiani’. People come here from many districts just to eat this biriyani. Even someone who comes from another country goes on to eat Haji biryani. You will find three branches of ‘Haji Biriyani’. The main branch located at 70 Kazi Alauddin Rd, Dhaka-1000. It’s that which started in 1939. Then they created two more branches in Dhaka. One at 9, Motijheel b/a, (Karim Chamber), Beside Biman Office, Dhaka-1000 and the other in Bashundhara Rd, Dhaka-1229.

Haji Mohammad Shahed said, “I have never changed anything, not even the amount of salt”. That means you will enjoy the taste of the first time in 1939. They also prepare special ‘Borhani’.
