*** The President-designate of Peru, Dina Boluarte, began this Saturday a tour of areas located in the northern coast of the country to attend to the emergency generated by heavy rains, floods and landslides caused by cyclone Yaku, and acknowledged that the country does not have the necessary means to cope with this situation. During this day, the declaration of a state of emergency was made official from the region of Tumbes (north) to Lima, the capital. The measure also includes the regions of Piura, Lambayeque and La Libertad, in the north of the Peruvian coast. From Tumbes, Boluarte acknowledged that the State does not have the necessary conditions to face the heavy rains. He pointed out that "through the National Institute of Civil Defense (Indeci) we warned several weeks ago that this natural phenomenon was going to affect the north of the country. Governors and mayors did not have the means to face it immediately and, to tell the truth, neither did the State".

*** The launch of the first 3D printed rocket was finally cancelled this Saturday after several attempts, representing a new setback for the private owner of this innovative spacecraft that is touted as less expensive to produce and fly. Engines began firing on the unmanned Terran 1 rocket, built by California startup Relativity Space, when an "automation" problem caused the company to cancel liftoff for the second time in less than a week. Shortly afterward, the company attempted the launch again from Cape Canaveral in Florida, but had to abort due to pressure problems in the rocket's second stage, the company wrote on Twitter. "The team gave it EVERYTHING today and we intend to make it on our next attempt," Relativity said, adding that they would soon report on the new launch date.

*** Various unions, healthcare workers and UK citizens protested Saturday at the crisis in the National Health Service, days ahead of the budget in which the government lays out its spending plans for 2024. Following a shortage of healthcare professionals in hospitals and ever-increasing waiting times for patients, the protesters are calling for comprehensive healthcare. In addition, the Royal College of Emergency Medicine (RCEM) stated that the NHS is currently going through one of its worst crises, where the number of deaths has increased as a result of the "collapse" of the emergency medical system. Over the last few months, the source said, waits of up to 12 hours for ambulances have been recorded. One of the specialists participating in the day's protests, physician Andrew Meyerson, said that "a good shift at this time for those working in the emergency services is one in which someone does not die in our emergency rooms or is not found dead on arrival in a delayed ambulance".

*** The USDC stablecoin recovered its value this Saturday after losing its parity with the dollar, after the company in charge of it, Circle, revealed that it has some 3.3 million dollars, or 8% of its reserves, tied up inside Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), the financial entity that starred in the biggest bank failure in the U.S. since the 2008 global financial crisis. Such a situation caused panic among USDC investors who rushed to divest themselves of the assets and their value fell to $0.85. In this context, Circle tried to reassure its customers that its cryptocurrency was fully backed by $42.1 billion in cash and U.S. Treasury bonds. At 03:38 GMT it was trading at $0.98.

*** Russian troops registered advances at the AZOM metallurgical plant in the Ukrainian town of Bakhmut, Andrei Marochko of the People's Militia of the self-proclaimed Lugansk People's Republic, a region illegally annexed by Vladimir Putin's regime, said on Sunday. "In the town of Artyomovsk (Russian name of Bakhmut) the assault groups occupied favorable positions in the industrial zone of the metal processing plant," he asserted to the Russian TASS news agency. According to Marochko, these positions allow Russian troops "to control the enemy's movements, as well as to create a good bridgehead for further advances". This Saturday, the head of the Russian mercenary group Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, said that his forces had approached the administrative center of the city.

*** A team of scientists from the Polytechnic Universities of Madrid and Castilla-La Mancha are studying the potential of a biofuel obtained from orange peel, with the aim of replacing fossil fuels. The experiment began with the use of waste from the fruit industry to extract orange oil and analyze its potential as a fuel for bioreactors. The results obtained were published in Renewable Energy, and show that such oil is a viable alternative to be blended up to 15% with jet fuel, without any significant drawback for jet fuel performance, and complying with all the requirements of aviation standards. The biofuel has been treated to reduce its tendency to form soot, so its use would help reduce pollutant emissions from current fuels by 55%, which would represent "a promising advance in reducing emissions in both aviation and automotive".

*** Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro affirmed this Saturday that the US "is in a phase of historic decline" and no longer has anything good to offer Latin America and the Caribbean. "If something happened in the last 10 years is the economic, commercial and geopolitical diversification of Latin America and the Caribbean with the world. The deep and close relationship with China, the close relationship with Russia, of the whole continent, with India and in general with Europe," the president assured during an interview granted to the program La Pizarra. "The ties of dependence that, by means of domination, imposed on our continent with the U.S. empire have been broken," Maduro declared. "The U.S. empire is in a phase of historical decline and no longer has anything to offer for the good of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean, nothing," he reiterated. "On the contrary, all their policies are retrograde, all their alliances are retrograde, their alliances are with the right, with the extreme right, they have despised the democratic sectors, the progressive sectors of our continent. We have to continue on the path of helping the historic pact of a multipolar, multicentric world, of a new world", said Maduro.
