Edward Jacob Lang: a J6 political prisoner

Edward Lang was one of the protesters present at the Capitol in Washington, DC on 6 January 2021 to protest the certification of Joe Biden as winner of the 2020 Presidential election. Lang at some point armed himself with a baseball bat and a police shield. So feel free to consider him a rioter.

At one point, a stampede occurred on the steps of the Capitol. One version of events had Lang attack capitol police officers for no valid reason. Another version of events has him working to prevent the officers' attack on some civilians who ended up falling down and being trampled on in the course of the stampede, and even struck with officers' batons. During the altercation, one such protester, Rosanne Boyland suffered fatal injuries and subsequently died.

To be fair, Lang may be a violent man. I saw allegations of him beating up and choking a friend a few weeks before the events of 6 January. There reports seem vague and need to be viewed as unsubstantiated.

Lang was charged with a litany of charges, the most severe of which have to do with his attack on police officers. Which may indeed have occurred - but, to be fair, there is little reason to believe he intended to cause them any serious harm as no injuries to police officers seem to have occurred, judging by reports available. Lang was offered a plea deal which he ejected - likely due to being convinced that he did nothing wrong. He is being held without bail - and has been since January 2021, which by now makes it 15 months. On 7 April which happened to be his 27th birthday Lang was due to see his family for the first time since his arrest. But the federal authorities decided to move him to a different jail that day. Which I suspect was not a mere coincidence - the current regime seems to be less than fond of those who, like Lang, are not cowed by them. And yes, Lang may not be the nicest person under the sun - but that is hardly a justification for official abuse.

Let us now take a look at a different political prisoner. His name is Darrell Brooks Jr and he is jailed in Wisconsin on multiple counts of murder and assorted other charges for committing
the 21 November 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade attack. By all indications, he deliberately drove his vehicle through the parade crowd killing 6 people and injuring 62, handicapping some of them for life. The use of a vehicle for assault is something Mr Brooks had some experience with prior to that terrorist attack as a short while before the attack he was freed from jail after his arrest for attempting to run a woman (his girlfriend, if memory serves) down with the same vehicle he used in the Christmas parade attack.

Brooks seems to have been motivated by BLM-style anti-White racism and radical leftist ideology. He also had a massive criminal background which included sexual abuse of a minor and various violent crimes. And he is in jail now - but, unlike Lang, he has a bond set. Yes, the amount is high - 8 million USD - but at least he has a legal chance of getting out of jail prior to his trial. And Lang has no such option - even though he very realistically may never be sentenced to the amount of time he will have served by the time he goes to trail, which with customary delays may be another year if not more. Brooks, on the other hand, will never see freedom if convicted.

I think the treatment of these two men vividly illustrates the disparate treatment political prisoners get in the US depending on their affiliation.

Generally, I see a "pro" citizens treatment might be different in the world.

What do you mean by "pro" citizens?

Like pro-goverment.

I'd say someone affiliated with mainstream politics generally gets a pass, to some extent or other.

All of these crazy criminals are being allowed to commit crimes with no repercussions.

Like here in Portland district attorney Mike Schmidt allows criminals to continue abusing citizens while the police stand by. Even if you are arrested district attorney will not even press charges.

A real situation here isn't that we have all this crime it's that all these criminals are being enabled why of evil elected and paid to stop them.

You have a relatively high level of criminal activity because criminals know consequences will likely by mild to non-existent.

You have a similar situation - even if not to the same extent as in Portland - in most blue cities.

Absolutely and it's completely by design having legalized drugs suddenly all of the Mexican cartels are doing phenomenal amounts of business here in Portland because you can run around with less than an ounce of anything and not have any consequences.

Because of the massive amount of weight of drugs as well as the massive amount of cash flow. All of a sudden you have out of state gangs committing huge shootouts trying to steal a portion of this.

Portland keeps blaming the violence on this that or the other but really that is the true reason why Portland Oregon is leading the nation in gun violence.

In some of these shootouts individuals have dumped massive amounts of rounds at each other usually hitting innocent bystanders.

Drugs are not fully legalized, unfortunately. If they were, cartels would be out of business.

Otherwise you are 100% right.

In addition, I bet gun control doesn't help either.

Actually it is more like gun restriction of law abiding citizens and criminal gun possession enabled by the district attorney's and the court system.

Let alone all these individuals absolutely do get booked and then released. And of course charges are usually dropped if they are even prosecuted.

Absolutely a ridiculous situation.

Personally I think that we should hand out guns and you should be able to carry whatever you want.

If you commit a crime? Well let's take it to a jury and I'm sure that the dead criminal will be a testimony in of itself.

Everyday citizens need protection from the law as well as criminals now.

The legal cost of having to use self-defense can ruin and pretty much do ruin everyone.

The cost of protecting my life against a home invasion not only cost me my health but opportunities for a living. Not only did I survive but I was also left with permanent damage as well as the psychological damage.
