How Many Weeks Are You Prepared To Go Without a Visit To the Store?

Are You Prepared - Tomato Bushes

Are you getting your garden prepared for all the tomato plants you are going to start growing this spring?
If not that, are you stocking up on cans of tomato sauce?

Many are reporting that tomatoes are in short supply.
Tomato rationing in Europe already.

I bring up tomatoes because it is one of the easiest plants to grow.
And it is also something that people can see easily as it disappears from shelves.

So, are you prepared?

Preps are measured in weeks

How many weeks are you prepared for?

If you couldn't go to the grocery store for two weeks, would you survive?

From seeing many people's kitchens/pantries, they wouldn't last two days if suddenly they weren't allowed to go out. And being raised in a world where fast food restaurants are everywhere and stores have aisles of ready to heat meals, you can see how people would just exist on this stuff, and consider this convenience normal.

It appears that our loving govern-cement is working whole heartedly on making food scarce and bring about lock-downs 2.0.

So, i feel it would be in our best interest to have enough food in our pantries to survive for a while.
Don't be one of those people in the hungry mob rampaging through the city.
Our loving govern-cement has plans for those people. Either Tienanmen Square 2.0, or bused off to a FEMA camp.

Eat what you store, Store what you eat

Don't go buying cases of MREs. That stuff is awful, and expensive.
And your body doesn't do really well when you suddenly change its diet.

Instead, buy things that you will eat.
Learn to cook with freeze dried foods. Very convenient, and can add flavors easily to dishes.

One of my favorites is to make soup. Use a chicken carcass and boil it down to stock.
Then add canned vegetables (best if you canned them yourself). Very quick, very easy soup.
Much cheaper than canned soups from the store. And you know what is in it.

Learn to make breads from flour. It is fun and tastes oh so good.
Flour lasts a long time.
Once you get good at this you can store wheat berries and grind them fresh for even better breads.

Food Riots are Coming

So many people who predict futures all say "Food riots".
And people who are watching levels of food stores the world has all say, "Food riots".
If this winter continues on like it is doing, next years crops are going to be dismal. Meaning Food riots.

Having two weeks of food will get you through most of the bad stuff you might see.
(which could just be you being snowed in your house)

Two months of food preps will get you across most disasters while everyone else is running around like a chicken with their heads cut off.

Just please, do not be one of those hunger crazed people in the mob searching anywhere for food.

To bad you didn't write this yesterday. I missed out on a great opportunity for when those food riots break out and they come a knocking. Walmart had their great value tuna in a four pack on sale for $3.33 today. I could have stocked up to throw out the window in hopes of appeasement as I'd have to be near starving to even venture a guess what one can of great value tuna looks like in that can. I am really picky about tuna, I don't care for tuna that looks like cat food or that floats around in a can.

Once you get good at this you can store wheat berries and grind them fresh for even better breads.

Maybe you can give us some helpful hints on adding yet another step to the drawn out process of homemade bread, where do you get the best wheat berries, what's the best grinder on the market. How many additional hours will this take? What if the electric goes out or there's no gas, is there a chapter on how to build your own stone oven in the backyard, how big it should be, how many bricks will I need?

I was working on that years ago on Steem.
Posts are probably still there...

Lets see if i can that all put together.

My best idea is a solar oven, but i do not have a place to build that yet.
So i can only give best idea plans.

And it is a good thing you didn't get that tuna, because you may be able to knock one person out, and appease another, but there is more, they keep coming, there's no end to them, and they wont stop when you tell them that is all your tuna. 😝

I would easy pass two weeks without visiting a supermarket.

This is great news.

In my youth, going to the grocery store was a full day escapade. All of us kids in the truck getting two carts full of food and then returning by night. This was usually every other weekend, or longer.

That we had a dairy cow made this a lot easier.
