If Texas wants more power, there might be a simpler way to do it. If I recall correctly, when the Republic of Texas joined the U.S. there was a clause in the treaty that Texas retained the option of splitting into five states (which would yield eight more Senators).
Not sure if perhaps that clause was nullified during or after the Civil War. Any Texans here know if it’s still extant?
The 9th and 10th amendment allows for a state to get back power from federal government.
I believe they still do retain the right to do that if they want.. but I'm not sure, nor do i think it would really benefit anyone if they did so. 50 is a good round number and we are running out of spaces for stars :)
