I, too, am glad social media didn't exist when I was growing up. I opened a FB account around 2009 and had fun reconnecting with former classmates and keeping in touch with distant family members. After a few years, though, people started arguing endlessly on FB about every possible hot topic, and advertisements began to pop up. I made my exit about five years ago, and have missed it rarely.

it is a decent way to contact people you haven't spoken to in a while but also it can be a bit disappointing because you realize after a couple of messages that you have nothing in common with this person anymore and now things are awkward.
