I understand your point and that's why I avoid news in general but when it comes to so simple things like wearing a mask in shops and keeping distance to others, I simply do not understand the problem.
I have no tv and I do not listen to radio news so much. I avoid news sites and newspapers. Perhaps 1 time a week I accidentally listen to the news on the radio BUT I still wear a mask, wash my hands, hold distance to others because I think I am smart enough to understand that this can not be wrong. It will not hurt my health (it can harm I know - but I will not die from wearing a mask), it is not hard to do & if scientists are right I can save many lives with that.
I don't get why so many people are dogmatically egoistic and against caring about other peoples health. I want to visit my grandmother without doubts that I infected her with a deadly disease & I do not want to be the reason why people around me become ill in general.
