Israel is reintroducing the mask requirement in closed public areas due to the so called delta variant of the coronavirus. As announced by the Ministry of Health, the scheme will apply from 12 noon today.
The authority also recommends wearing mouth and nose protection at major outdoor events. Israel is withdrawing this easing from mid-June. Although more than half of the population has already received two corona vaccinations, incidence rates have risen sharply recently. Last Monday, more than 100 new infections were registered in one day for the first time since April. According to the ministry, most of these can be traced back to the delta variant. Among the newly infected are many young people but also people who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19.
