My Eating Habits: The Good & The Bad

Welcome to today's blog. This week's prompt is about eating habits. Everyone has eating habits that are peculiar to them. Some prefer quality to quantity or the other way round. Some take time to eat only food that can nourish their bodies, while some just eat anything so far it tastes good.

But this post is about me, about my eating habits and you're about to find out. There are good and bad aspects to my eating habits. I will start with the bad ones.

The Bad Aspects Of My Eating Habits

Overeating: I hope you won't judge me on this one. Almost everbody, especially in Africa, prefer to eat food in large quantities even if it causes them discomfort. Whenever I eat and my stomach is not well filled, I usually have a feeling of discomfort. As if my strength is depleted.

Late Night Eating: For some people eating late at night is a bad habit and can hurt our systems. I've heard that a lot of times but still I indulge in this habit of late night eating. Infact I'm the only one who does this in my family. This is partly because I am on some kind of antidepressant drugs and they make me hungry and sleepy a lot. So if I take the drugs after having my supper I will have to eat again later on in the night or hunger won't let me sleep. Apart from that, I actually enjoy doing some tasks late at night, like reading or watching an educational video or an interesting movie and then occasionally walking into the kitchen to have a bite of food.

Messy Eating Habits: Please don't picture a little kid messing his white shirt up with food while reading this part. It's not that messy with me. But the fact is that I don't care particularly for cleanliness when eating my food, especially if I'm very hungry. Man, I sure can clean up later. Like wiping the table with a towel or my mouth.

Pickiness: Most parents won't allow this in their children. If you don't like the food cooked for the day, you can eat somewhere else or wait for the next meal. But I'm a picky person when it comes to food. There are certain foods people find appetizing that I rarely eat. For example any food that contains yam really turns off my appetite, unless it's very well cooked. I even hate some fruits like carrots, etc.

But as an adult, if the people I'm living with cooked something I can't eat, I just try to sort myself out, maybe buy some food items and put something together.

The Good Aspects Of My Eating Habits:

Nutrition First: For me when it goes to what we put into our bodies, nutrition should always come first. There's no benefit eating junk food because of it's good taste and suffering the bad effects later on. I try to avoid junk or processed foods as much as possible. I also try to combine my meals with veggies and fruit salads as best as I can.

Hygiene: If I find out that a well prepared and tasty food wasn't prepared under hygienic conditions, all my appetite will just disappear. That's why I prefer not to eat in some restaurants.

Eating For Strength: I usually prefer to eat well enough so I'd have strength. Sometimes I engage in some strenuous chores at home which require strength. And if my stomach is not adequately filled, I wouldn't feel comfortable doing the chores. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I even carry out chores while fasting for the whole day, but I prefer doing it on a well-fed stomach.

Abstinence: Medical professionals usually tell us of the health benefits of abstaining from food for some periods of time. Most days I don't eat until it's noon. I know breakfast is important but if I ate well the night before, it would take a while for me to be hungry the next day.

Sometimes I fast or abstain from food for religious purposes. I once went days without eating any food, only drinking water. I guess this helps to give our digestive organs space to rejuvenate themselves.

Pickiness: Not the negative type of pickiness. I am the type of person that doesn't eat anywhere, anyhow. In fact if I can remember correctly, throughout my secondary school I never ate anything from any of my schoolmates, even snacks. Hell, I never even drank anyone's water. That's me. Some years ago I went to a friend's house. His mom and dad were around, they were watching something on TV and eating. Either cucumber and groundnuts or corn and pear, I don't remember which. They offered me a generous amount of the food but I refused. My friend's mom talked about my habit of not eating at their house whenever I came. It's just me. I usually don't feel comfortable eating any food cooked outside my home.

It's true what we eat and how we eat affects our health. If we eat wrongly our health will be affected. And if we eat right, our health will flourish. For me I will try to continue with the positive aspects of my eating habits and try to drop the negative ones. Because even if they are not affecting me now, they can do so later in life.

Food is life and personally,I do not joke with food as a food. I tried going days without food once, I had joined my friend on ber weight loss fast and that practice almost cost me. Since then I learnt and understood the staying that food is life

Indeed, food is life and we should always eat good, healthy food. Thanks for reading my post.
