I strongly believe that if anyone wishes to build a long lasting relationship, trust is paramount. This is because trust is hard to build and easy to break, and when broken might never ever be mended again. One thing I have also understood about life is that trust is in levels, you might trust a person to have your back and at the same time not trust them with money. This doesn’t mean you do not trust them, it just means that you don’t just have enough confidence in their ability to hold money like you do in their ability to come through for you.

For example I would say I don’t trust my father to do certain things for me, but there are things that I can bet my life on that he will do. This is why when I want to build trust with someone, I try to first make sure they can count on me for the things they hold dear. If I fail here, then it doesn’t matter where else I have their trust because it will be almost useless. I learned this when I asked my partner one time if she trusts me (for something we were talking about) and she said NO. But then I overheard her talking with someone else and she said she trusts me in something completely different.
This is how you know the important things are what matters the most, and in this case, the little things are important. It is not about what you like but what they like, and if you can always put what a person likes into consideration, no matter who they are, they will end up trusting you with even their life. Trust is earned, and you earn it by giving what a person likes, there must be an attribute of consistency in it, and when that happens, it becomes like a trade, you give and you gain trust.
