AI-A BLESSING THAT REQUIRES CAUTION

in SciFi Multiverse4 months ago

HELLO EVERYONE,

My name is Onah Dominic, also known as @kingdomzy on Hive.

I’m thrilled to share my thoughts on the topic of *
Artificial Intelligence (AI). As someone who is both a medical student and a tech enthusiast, I found this conversation too important to skip. I only recently joined the Hive community (about two weeks ago), and I’ve been exploring various communities and prompts to contribute to. While scrolling through posts in the SciFi Multiverse community, I stumbled on this topic and was instantly captivated.

MY BACKGROUND AND CURIOSITY

Growing up in Nigeria, I’ve seen the double-edged nature of technological advancement. My father—whom I fondly call the "man of old"—often expressed his concerns about modern innovations. He believed that today's generation is overly reliant on technology, especially AI, and has lost the ability to think deeply and solve problems independently.

We used to have deep conversations. He would say, "You're a child of the new world," and I would respond by asking him why he seemed thankful to be born before this tech age. He always emphasized that in his time, people learned and solved problems through direct experience and self-reliance, not by asking a machine.

One of his most powerful lessons to me was this: The scientists who gave us all these innovations did so by stressing their brains, thinking outside the box. Now, too many of us rely on their thoughts rather than creating new ones. That stuck with me.

PERSONAL EXPERIENCES AND NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF AI

I’ve personally witnessed how misuse of AI and technology can bring serious consequences. During our 300-level professional exams in medical school, I lost three close friends. They were caught using smartwatches in the exam hall. These were brilliant guys—students who aced WAEC and scored over 300 in JAMB. But they had grown so dependent on AI tools that they neglected to study and were eventually expelled.

What hurt more was that I had often warned them to stop using the smartwatches. They laughed it off, saying I only advised them because I couldn’t afford one. That experience still pains me deeply.

Our Pathology lecturer also shares similar concerns. He often laments how students no longer write notes or engage fully in class because they assume AI will do everything for them. He reminds us that real learning requires effort, and depending solely on AI may cost us dearly in the long run.

I’ve also faced personal struggles with smartphone addiction. As a medical student, time is precious. Yet I found myself spending too much time on my phone. To regain focus, I took a bold step—I bought a basic button phone to use during school hours and left my smartphone and laptop at home. This simple change helped me focus better in class and use AI more effectively when I actually needed it.

THE POSITIVE SIDE OF AI

Despite all this, I believe AI is a massive blessing. Tools like ChatGPT have made studying more accessible and enjoyable for me. Complex medical concepts are now easier to understand. I use platforms like Lovable.com and Supabase to create websites—skills I never formally studied, but learned with the help of AI.

I also learned how to trade forex with help from a mentor and used ChatGPT to build on that foundation. In many ways, AI has become my silent partner in personal growth and learning.

AI has helped me ask better questions, learn faster, and think deeper. It’s like having a 24/7 tutor who simplifies complex ideas without judgment.

FINAL THOUGHTS AND ADVICE

AI has helped me grow tremendously, but I agree with my father: We must not let it replace our ability to think, create, and innovate.

To students and readers alike:

  • Let’s remember the primary reason these technologies were created—to assist, not replace, human effort.

  • Avoid abusing these tools. Use them wisely to expand your own thinking.

  • If you're struggling with smartphone addiction, consider using a button phone during school or work hours.

  • Get an accountability partner—a friend, partner, or family member—to help you stay focused.

We live in a privileged age. Let’s not misuse the gifts we’ve been given.

AI is a blessing. Let's treat it as one.

Thank you for reading. Please feel free to leave a comment and share your thoughts. Let’s grow together.

Welcome to the community @kinddomzy.

Ai is very impactful to humanity, it's the users of AI that abused it usefulness, thereby creating a disadvantage.

Ai was created to help humans achieve their task easier, and not to replace human intelligence.

Artificial intelligence and human intelligence should be used hand in gloves to achieve a better result.

We are together on this point of yours

Your reflection struck a deep chord -especially the story about your dad and the cautionary tale of your friends. It's a reminder that while AI can be an incredible tool, it should never replace our own discipline and curiosity. I really respect your decision to switch to a button phone during school hours -that kind of self-awareness and action is inspiring. So glad you joined the Hive community. Looking forward to more of your thoughtful contribution

Thank you so much sir....I really appreciate your words

You're welcome 😊. But I'm a girl 👧

I'm so sorry dear...thank you for reminding me..
Hope you're enjoying your weekend

Your father's wisdom really shines through here. That line about "the scientists who gave us these innovations did so by stressing their brains" is profound. It's easy to forget that every AI breakthrough came from humans pushing the boundaries of their own thinking, not from machines thinking for them.

Exactly his point...thank you for your contribution

You are highly welcome to hive and the scifimultiverse community, are you a student of MOUAU?

@kingdomzy also do well to indicate images that are AI generated in your post and images that are yours.

Yes my bro...I'm a Student of MOUAU...
thank you for stopping by and for your contributions

I'll agree with your dad. It'll be disastrous to allow AI replace human in their reasoning and opportunity to live

His perspective has been truly helpful to me and still plays a big role in guiding me.

Thank you for stopping by..
