People are normally advised to go to the hospital for a regular check, usually every month to confirm their health status. As much as it is important to know your health condition, some will say it is sometimes best to be left unknown, what you don’t know doesn’t kill you, being that a lot of people who die from illness die not because of the ailment but because of the fear of the ailment. While growing up, around the year 2004, the cases of HIV/AIDS were rampant killing a lot of people, some of these people at that time died because of fear and segregation factor, leaving them alone and lonely resulting in depression and the feeling of not having anything to live for. This is so for a whole lot of other illnesses.

Although not subscribed to the above idea of not going for regular checkups, I think there should be a better orientation on the topic of regular check-ups. I was at the hospital one time for a checkup. Getting to the hospital, I met with the nurse on duty requesting that I be checked, it was surprising to me that her responses were what I intended to check for. In my mind before going to the hospital, all I needed to do was to get to the hospital and tell them of my intention to check the status of my health, the questions that followed were if I was not feeling too good with my health and needed to know what was the problem.
A regular checkup is usually to assess overall health by evaluating the total well-being of an individual, this includes but is not limited to Checking the blood pressure of the individual, heart rate as well as other essential signs of health issues, asking questions about the general health of the individual, if the individual has a specific concern that might require further attention.
The saying that when you go to the hospital they will always find something to diagnose you with is false, if you don’t have anything wrong with your health, I am certain they will not find anything, we mostly don’t take good care of ourselves which results in us having numerous ailment, and once we are used to checking our health on a regular, and sticking to taking good care of our health, they will not find ailment on a regular when we go for check-ups, there are certain things that people take for granted, this might stay too long I result to something serious, this is why it is strongly advised that we visit the hospital to be examined by the doctor on a regular.
I too don’t visit the hospital for regular checks because I didn’t know the importance and I also felt that it was too expensive a norm to engage in regularly, in a country like ours where most people do not have health insurance, this poses a challenge to them to be able to attend to their health on a regular. My advice to people like myself who take regular checks to be expensive a lifestyle to maintain is that health is wealth and no amount is too much for you to take care of yourself when it comes to your health.

Regular health assessments are crucial to prevent illness and to detect early potential issues. However, accessibility and affordability can be a form of barrier. Raising awareness about the importance of regular check-ups and making healthcare more accessible and affordable can help address these.
