Greetings!
One thing about life is that it's to be lived and no matter what would be our end in life, we have to live it. Also, one other thing is about life and all of us who live in it is that our wants, human wants are insatiable.
So, we can't because of death, which is inevitable, stop living life, we must always continue to live our lives everyday so as to make ends meet for ourselves and also to do great things.
However, for us to make ends meet and live a meaningful life, we must always be willing to succeed and it's in our willingness that we wake up early in the morning to go out and hustle to make that thing that will make us live life which is money.
Having said this, permit me to delve into the topic of the prompt which is about, “why do we spend our lives gathering worldly treasures when we would leave them behind at the end.”
Well, in my own opinion there's no way we humans would die because of death which everyone knows will come one day, someday stop living our lives and this is because of how God himself has created us.
Although, God did not at the beginning meant it for us to labour and toil before we can live or do great in life, but as we read in the holy scripture of the bible, we were told that since what happened in the garden of Eden, God cursed man and since then, we have been toiling and hustling to amass wealth to ourselves and this is how it's been ever since and that's how it will remain till the end of the ages.
Now, let's ask ourselves, why do we spend our lives…? Well to me, this cannot be predicted and since we can't predict life and the time of our death, then nothing would ever stop us to always spend our lives and time amassing worldly treasure to ourselves.
For instance, as we do not know the timing of our death, is it now proper for one to stop working? What will such a person be eating in the expectation of his or her death? Where would he be living if he stopped working? What will such a person be putting on as clothes because of his expectations of dying very soon.
All these questions need to be answered before we can stop working or spending our lives gathering worldly treasure.
Aside from this, there's some people that God has destined to live long, so, if such a person should now stop working or gathering worldly pleasure to himself, how would he or she see out or live the rest of his life? To me, it would be kind of difficult for such a person to live the rest of his life if he had stopped spending his life amassing worldly pleasure to himself.
However, the only thing I think we should have at the back of our lives is to amass worldly treasure to ourselves with a good heart and not by any dubious means. Doing this and helping others would help us to live a fulfilled life and also help us to leave a good and lasting legacy behind for those that are to come when death finally comes.
In conclusion, there's no way we would not spend our lives amassing wealth or worldly treasure to ourselves and this is because of the fact that we do not know when death will finally come for us.

Death can never be considered a meaningful excuse of not striving for a better life. Even if it is inevitable, we still have to provide for our present needs.
Regardless, we all will lay one day lifeless but then we must keep grinding until the end comes.
