Occasionally, I do wonder why we have dreams while sleeping. It's not an everyday thought but each time it pops up randomly, I find myself trailing down the memory lane into my world of dreams.
I don't think there's any category of dreams I haven't had; happy, sad, scary, adventurous, unrealistic and real ones, which whenever it eventually comes to pass, often feels like deja vu.
That doesn't mean I have dreams every night though. Some nights are usually dream-free while on other occasions, the dreams seem to be endless, each one coming up right after the other like a movie series.
There's no human out there who will look into my eyes and tell me that he or she doesn't have dreams during moments of sleep. To me, that would be the biggest joke ever told in history.
That's because dream is a natural phenomenon. It's not something we can decide to have or not neither can we decide when or what we would dream about. It just happens and that equally makes it riveting and mysterious.
I find dreams pretty amazing. In dreams, you can get to experience things that are impossible in reality, visit scenic places, encounter fabled creatures and for a few people, get a first hand glimpse on future events.
A good number of dreams tend to come about based on the recent happenings in one's life. Someone whose mind is bogged down with one expectation or the other is bound to have a dream in regards to that.
And in such cases, dreams serve as a form of self- expression, providing a moment for the subconscious mind to surface, laying down those thoughts one has been worried about and probably trying to suppress.
I believe dreams equally serve as an escape from reality, allowing our minds to travel far and wide, diving into a range of realistic and unrealistic experiences such that, even if one is going through ugly times, happy dreams leaves him or her with something relieving and cheerful in mind to wake up to.
Let's not forget that dreams equally serve as a way of communication. There are people out there who are gifted with the ability to communicate with our creator in dreams, with messages to pass across to others, as well as loved ones who have taken a position as stars in the sky.

Not everyone believes that dreams serve as a means of communication, some say it's just our brain doing it thing.
I do given that I've had personal experiences and have also come across those who do.
