Chosing My Preferred Electric Power Source

Power supply is a cornerstone of modern living in today's world, second only to water as a fundamental amenity. This reality is even more pronounced when looking at various regions of the world, particularly in Africa, where the power infrastructure is highly strained.

Grid power using conventional networks managed by the government has long been the backbone of electricity supply across the world. While this type of system also suffers from reliability issues, it is difficult to match it when it comes to usability and affordability. The beauty of grid power lies in how easy it is for consumers. With proper installations, there is minimal maintenance apart from paying the utility bills monthly.

As power demands have grown and reliability issues remain, generators have proven to be an easy alternative for most. But such an option comes at a steep price. The cost of generating and sustaining power through a generator has proven to be well beyond the reach of most homes and businesses. Increasing fuel prices combined with regular maintenance requirements make the generator an ill-considered choice for daily power needs.

In my situation, I do have a generator at home but barely ever get to use it other than to entertain overnight guests. I even find myself struggling to recall when exactly I used it during the day, the cost is simply too prohibitive. My strategy is plain and simple, if grid power is available, great, otherwise, I just wait for its return. Unless I'm running a business that makes money, using a generator for continuous power supply just doesn't make financial sense.

Solar power systems may seem efficient and affordable at first sight, but they are not my choice either. One of the biggest issues is the limited lifespan of solar inverter batteries, similar to car batteries. Additionally, the power output is not enough for industrial use or running heavy machinery. There is also the problem of solar electricity weakening mobile phone battery life.

Grid electricity, as imperfect as it is, is still the most practical means. The nature of the centralized maintenance means that individual consumers do not have to worry about technical hassle. The unit price of electricity still is significantly lower compared to other alternatives, so it is the most economically obvious option for everyday use.

Both homes and businesses can observe that economically, the math is on the side of grid electricity. The cumulative cost of fuel, maintenance, and eventual replacement makes alternatives like generators suitable only as back-up power sources and not as primary power sources.

The best in the future lies not in vomiting out more alternatives but in preserving and developing grid infrastructure. With enough government interest and investment on the grid electrical supply system, this reliability issue driving people in search of alternatives would be reduced or eliminated.

I will always prefer grid electric power supply over any other alternative that may be available. If our government is able to fix and correct the prevailing problems in the electric supply system, the use of alternative power sources would become unnecessary. The path forward is simple, we have to focus on developing our present grid infrastructure rather than forcing consumers to rely on expensive alternatives.

Remember that the most ideal power supply system is the one that is always able to meet your needs without inflicting financial stress. Grid electricity, despite today's disadvantages in certain places, remains the best to achieve this balance. With additional investment and progress in grid infrastructure, we can look forward to an age where constant power is not something that is wished for but a consistent standard for all.

even though solar is not the best option, it is the most appealing. Solar salesmen also seem to all be very successful lol

Most appealing because grid electric power supply isn't stable which create Job opportunity for solar panels dealers and installers.

ya I know a lot of people who were interested in a solar + battery setup more for power outages not to save money.

silver holders love the solar space

This is a well written peace. I understand the concept of innovation but constantly inventing new inventions without mastering the usability and sustainability of the older ones is quite unacceptable. When it comes to energy supply, I still insist nothing beats electricity from grid
