In these weekly updates we will bring fresh content to Hive, in the form of our game coding experiences; IBT is a developing PC game - the one to have future Crypto interactions.
What an incredible week... how the heck...like (gasp!) how do we as game makers and just human beings, find enough time with day jobs, sick relatives, and arthritic pets - got me! still we must keep pushing on or this game will never get done.
Who doesn't love the ocean
Now the ocean.. Ok we are fairly happy with it, I mean I think it looks pretty good but we are currently experimenting with tides and sea foam. Depending on how bad the FPS drops this may be available in the next demo. So far we have managed to make the sand look wet and added some foam and a few sizable waves for that Aussie stunning beach look - what do you think? beachy..haha
Coastal sound Spline
Another difficult problem fixed yesterday was being able to walk along the coast and hear the ocean. The problem was if you added sound to the coast it would fade and come back because the way sound cues work in UE4. They use attenuation which means if your close it should be loud and if your far it should fade the further you go away from it. That's all good but sound cues don't move therefore you jump from sound cue to sound cue which at times can cause the sound to fade and come back if not done correctly.
No fears, we created a sound spline which follows the character allowing the sound to be constant without fading. After a number of tests this system was quite effective and will be in the next demo. (example of spline moving with character is displayed in gif)

That ocean is looking good! If you were going for more realism it still needs a few tweaks (which I think you already mentioned), but definitely looking good :)
