IBT Survival Island - Regular Update

In these regular updates we will bring fresh content to Hive in the form of our game coding experiences; IBT is a developing PC game - the one to have future Crypto interactions.

Out with the old

So we lost allot, but it also means we gained allot - its a chance to think about where we came from, what we did good and bad, and look back how it all started. Moving forward we aren't going to just look to replace what we lost, but improve what we still have.

In this spirit and trying to be positive here...here is the old Logo for IBT

We remembered the feedback and comments here on hive and decided some 3D modelling improvements are now within grasp and why not have a fresh shot to get back into this..So here we go...Our new logo looks like...

In with the new

Haha ok well maybe it's not as good as a pro artist, but I think its come out looking a bit better - what do you think?

Goodbye big annoying sign

Instead of having a huge sign to refer to for IBT controls we have added on screen text which was requested by a lot of previous testers. You can change the help text (previous page and next page) simply by pressing the + or - keys.

Change of some Animations

We are having to redo some animations since we lost a heap of data from gleefully cooking our hard drives...gosh gotta let the pain go and move on...Anyways this week is all about chopping the trees, next week will be mining rock animations.

Well, that's it for this week, a fresh start and some rebuilding, but won't be long and we will be... back in the game :)

Our Discord channel invite is open to any cryptonian here: https://discord.gg/Gr3kH9T

Cheers and enjoy our upgoats below, thanks to a @ryivhnn

Sort:

i was one of those that actually liked the big ugly sign, sorry to see it go but I will adapt, I will survive.

...err will keep one in there somewhere just for you or maybe a sign post DLC haha.

An ancient old road sign floating up on the beach - Shadow Way -. that would be pretty cool.

A lot is two separate words, allot has something to do with distrubtion

It might take a while to let the pain go and move on and that's fine, just actually back up next time XP just automate the process and generally set and forget. If you can't afford the expensive off-site backup you could do something similar to my overkill redundancies:

  • NUC sitting on my desk with Nextcloud on it. Freefilesync two way sync of project directory executed automatically at 1am or 3am (can't remember which and too lazy to look it up right now). Small enough to grab and shove in a bag in an emergency (though I don't know how healthy runking it off power while it's running would be x_x). This is a two way sync as I occasionally need to work remotely
  • two external hard drives, one connected to my computer, the other living at my aunty's house. At 1am or 3am (whenever the NUC isn't), Freefilesync update sync of entire home directory (if you want historic backups, get it to version files instead of directly updating them, but that will get real big real fast unless you're deleting really old backups). The drives get swapped whenever I go visit my aunty

I still want a raid at some stage (though it's much less pressing now that I have the NUC) xP but I haven't been able to find the small two drive one I saw once, just 4-6 drive monstrosities.

On the bright side the changes that have been made are looking good :)

Its nuts, even if we had Raid would have lost the lot as fried all logi boards..but yeah regular regime on USB backup now occurring haha. better later then never.

Cheers for the feedback, the logo is better I think.

The raid I was looking at was a completely separate piece of equipment, it's generally a bad idea to have your backup drives in the same machine for exactly that situation you had.

Once your backups are automated and on external media any losses won't be quite so catastrophic, yay for the usb drives :)
