A story without beginning or end

We were inside the Sierra del Rosario, an area declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. And here, specifically, we were about to climb up to the Loma El Mogote viewpoint.

At some point up there Rolo would say: You can’t complain, we even saw a meteor falling. Hahaha…

A celestial body… let’s put it that way! Whatever it was, I made a wish.

But I was feeling it in a celestial way too. The proof lies in my photos. I don’t know, perhaps they’re nothing extraordinary, but they show what I was seeing. And it was also my first experience of night hiking, because we descended from there once all the lights had gone out.

From now on, I’m going to arrange the photos of the views, up to the one already shared, in order.

…then I took the photo of the celestial body… 😅

Before I go on sharing photos from that day, I must say that according to the travel and hiking brochures cherished by many visitors beyond our borders, Soroa is known as the Rainbow of Cuba.

I suppose that mythical idea that at the end of the rainbow a treasure or several await fits here. For the landscape is exuberant, giving the sensation of being in a natural paradise. A river, natural pools, ponds and waterfalls, mountains, immense trees, birds of every kind and colour whose songs are a delight. In Soroa there is an orchid garden with more than 700 species… what more could one ask for. A land where everything grows healthily. The inhabitants of the area take pride in their agroecological produce. And well… let’s not forget the rainbow that forms over the great Soroa waterfall, which I couldn’t see this time… 😝

The Loma El Mogote viewpoint in Soroa is about 375 metres above sea level (approximately 1,230 feet).

I was telling you that night caught us there. This was the last photo I managed to take with my camera before descending. I think I have a few short videos of that descent which will surely come another time.
