Augusta wore her feelings on her face.
Aurora wore her feelings under her face.
"Both are my friends, and I love them dearly. But the emotional toll it takes on me to maintain our close bonds has reached the breaking point," Nina professed to her family.
"You're neither here nor there," they both would chide her often when they discovered her comments.
I could just scream, she confided in herself. Then one day, her finger hovered over the block button for several long moments.
She backed off for a while.
I can't throw away twenty years of friendships, she chided herself. Both are unique, and the draw that pulls me to them, but external stressors nonetheless, my therapist warned, in their unique way seeking individual paths. And I'm stuck in the middle.
When do one realize it's time to let go of outside influences that doesn't foster your well being? she read one day in a self-help magazine.
Why is it so difficult to free myself, she questioned several times again when another episode from each pulled her back into their drama-filled relationships. Whether career related or personal, Nina discovered that she was her friends' sounding board. A sympathetic listener. One who wouldn't push her advice on others, but just take it all in.
Augusta divulged too much information. Aurora desperately sought help, but hid key details that placed herself in a positive light.
The breaking point arrived unexpectedly. Both friends moved away and severed ties with Nina.
Problems solved.
But would she attach herself to new friends with the old habits she finally recognized and disposed of by no fault of her own?

For my current mixed media art project, I desired to show diversity in mindsets. The primary image depicted four females. By the position of each leaning on the other, I could tell they were friends. This was perfect for my portrayal of the different type of friendships.
I feel the images I chose to blend does exactly what I intended. One image I included of a peach flower was a diffusion from StarryAi, the stable diffusion program.
Utilizing my design program, Canva, I blended the images. adding layers of elements that includes tools to remove backgrounds, resize, filter, duplicate, detach elements from their backgrounds, and reposition items as required. Perhaps of all the tools, the ability to remove backgrounds thereby creating transparencies of the images is crucial to the blending process.
