How is this not a copyright violation?

You mean the meme? Idk knew they were clamping down in the UK about those which imo is pretty lame.

I mean I suppose we all could MS Paint our own artistic depictions of any given pop-culture reference for memes but imagine that would hinder humanity's ability to express quips, ideas or whatever using the memetic format of their choosing.

Or are you referring to my creating the PCM community or something else?

All copyright claims should be nullified.

For the most part I agree, dmca has become such a hindrance for people's creativity take livesteamers for instance. They can stream gaming or whatever for hours but God forbid they have even 10 seconds of music owned by a record label or BOOM demonetized!

The way the system is designed is to deal with it in black and white but sure you and I both know there are shades of gray. The primary value of their production can be argued as a conglomeration of many things, their personality, engagement with their audience, skills or what have you but we know it's sure as hell not from a song playing in the background even if YT treats it that way.

This is the reason I started playing around with creating MIDIs of tracks I wanna play on the rare occasions I do stream. It's a pain in the ass though and, even so, the media corporations could probably take some action based on legal precepts of derivative works etc. because I didn't ask their permission to create it. Guess I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

As for any kind of intellectual property rights, I do believe some laws should be in place to protect people's work but the current system seems to be more of a way for the suits to encumber people and reap more than what they sow.

Don't get me wrong. It's great to support the artists and various creators in the world but, if they support the kind of strong-arm racket that has become our current copyright system, then maybe we should all rethink supporting those people.

Thanks for the reply. It was thought provoking 👍

If truly innovative work like a mechanical design patent expires after 20 years, all entertainment ownership should also be revoked after 20 years.

INTELLECTUAL ≠ PROPERTY
