My Fight Against Gynecomastia

in Personal Development3 years ago (edited)

What is Gynecomastia (guy-nuh-koh-MAS-tee-uh)? It's a hormonal imbalance with estrogen vs testosterone which causes an increased glandular tissue in men's breasts looking like men having women's breasts. (photo link)

When it started

When I turned 17 years old, I started to see some mass building up in my chest. I thought it was normal like an adolescence thing or like a muscle. However, over the years it still hasn't gone out. Then I started to search for this kind of condition and found out that this is called Gynecomastia - women like breasts. I searched for people having this kind of condition, checking some home remedies, gym, etc.

Decisions

So there, I started doing some gym, martial arts, calisthenics, cardio, etc to reduce my fats specifically in the chest area. However, the only thing that reduced is the other parts of my body except for my chest. I then began to worry, and depression sink in which causes my confidence level to drop. From being a gymcoholic, went to an alcoholic. Eventually, I started seeing that my breast becomes worst as I grew fatter. Even if I went back to the gym, hit those bags, and do other activities, it still hasn't shrunk. So I decided to go for surgery as the last resort. (Photo link)

Persistency

In the year 2021, I went to FB and searched for a clinic that does surgery for Gynecomastia. So I found "AOS Clinic" here in Cebu. Went there for my check-up, and the doctor said that he will just do liposuction and that the fat and gland will be completely removed because of the device that he will be using(PAL - POWER ASSISTED LIPOSUCTION). We had a small debate about the procedure, but since he's the doctor he insisted that my gyno won't go back and just by using liposuction it would finally fix my problem.

The Process

So there! I agreed. Did some covid tests as required, paid 75k, and went to the operating room which I was really excited about the result. It was just local anesthesia so I totally felt the doctor's force jerking the canola in my chest. The only painful and uncomfortable part was putting the anesthesia in my chest. There was this kind of liquid that they would put in which is around 400cc to my chest that would help out melting the fat before the liposuction.

The Result

50 minutes passed, and the doctor said it was all done. Checked my chest and I did saw some progress, but not 100% since I can still see my chest bulk. The doctor said that this will just eventually go down 3-7 months as part of the healing since it's still swelling from the operation(though I'm a bit doubtful since I saw some vids and it's never this kind of results, I kept myself being positive).

I followed the doctor's instructions, rested, changed my diet, and went back to exercising, and the results turns out okay. So I said to myself "hmm probably I was just so overdramatic". But as months go by, it began to show up again. I could feel a lump in my chest. There's still a lump whenever I wear plain shirts which my depression came back. The pain I had to suffer, the scars, and the P75,000.00 I paid were all for nothing. But I'm not done yet; I know there's still a chance to get this creepy thing out of my body, but I just had to save for another surgery again. My rate to AOS clinic is 4/10 by the way.

So this year 2022, I just did my 2nd surgery which is a game changer. I'll post my 2nd Gynecomastia update in the next few weeks. Thanks for reading until here, guys! I appreciate you.

It's my first time reading this illness and think that it was brave of you to go for surgery. You mentioned that you had a debate with the doctor prior to the operation... why did you still pushed through though? Anyways, things happen and lessons learned. Excited to know how your 2nd surgery went.

Indeed, my fault too. I pushed thru because there was no doctor in Cebu that would go through this kind of operation.

I salute your bravery! glad that the operation succeeds. Praying for your full recovery Bro
