These are photos of my cultivation and these orchids have been with me for about 4 or 5 years. In the photos we can see the pots that were used in their planting, however, nowadays I have made changes and little by little I am transferring all of them to trunks.
The fact is that I realized that inside the pots, some insects and other small animals used to appear and ended up eating parts of the roots and small shoots. As a result, the orchids were gradually withering away. Some of my collection even died, but others I managed to save in time.
Cattleya labiata is a native orchid of Brazil and has large and fragrant flowers. Of epiphytic habit, in general they appreciate a shading of 50% and a warm climate. Its flowering lasts on average between 15 to 20 days and has an incredible perfume.
Curiosity: one of the Chanel perfumes was produced with reference to the smell that the flowers of Cattleya labiata exude.
As I am not familiar with these perfumes, I just did a search and saw that it is Chanel 5.
These orchids are very used in crossing processes, giving origin to several hybrids, which basically are orchids that originate from these crossings and bring mixed characteristics of the original plants. These crosses, besides being carried out in laboratories, can also occur in nature itself, where small insects make the process, from one orchid to another.
In the cultivation in wooden trunks the roots are exposed imitating what occurs in nature. This makes it easier to check and clean, as well as to apply fertilizers or insecticides if necessary. The plant also dries quickly after watering, preventing the proliferation of fungi.
In general, I liked better the look of the orchids in the pots, however, the direct cultivation in the wooden trunks brought more health to all of them. Today I realize that some still seem to be adapting, but I can already see that they are much healthier.
In this new way, watering needs to be more frequent. Here I am watering every day. As I moved house, I am still organizing the new nursery and I know that improvements will still happen here.

Estas são fotos do meu cultivo, e estas orquídeas estão comigo há aproximadamente 4 ou 5 anos. Nas fotos vemos os vasos que foram utilizados em seu plantio, no entanto atualmente tenho feito mudanças e aos poucos estou transferindo todas elas para troncos.
O fato é que percebi que dentro dos vasos costumava surgir alguns insetos e outros pequenos animais que acabavam por comer partes das raízes e de pequenos brotos. Com isso as orquídeas iam definhando aos poucos. Algumas da minha coleção chegaram a morrer, mas outras eu consegui salvar a tempo.

Como não sou conhecedor desses perfumes, acabei de fazer uma pesquisa e vi que se trata do Chanel 5.
Estas orquídeas são muito utilizadas em processos de cruzamento, dando origem a vários híbridos, que basicamente são orquídeas que se originam desses cruzamentos e trazem características misturadas das plantas originais. Esses cruzamentos além de realizados em laboratórios podem ocorrer também na própria natureza, onde pequenos insetos fazem o processo, de uma orquídea para outra.
No cultivo em troncos de madeira as raízes ficam expostas imitando o que ocorre na natureza. Isso facilita a verificação e limpeza, além de facilitar a aplicação de adubos ou de inseticidas caso necessário. Também ocorre a rápida secagem da planta após a rega, evitando a proliferação de fungos.
De modo geral eu gostava mais do visual das orquídeas nos vasos, porém, o cultivo direto nos troncos de madeira trouxeram mais saúde para todas elas. Hoje percebe que algumas ainda parecem estar em adaptação, mas já percebo que estão bem mais saudáveis.
Dessa nova forma as regas precisam ser mais frequentes. Aqui eu estou regando todos os dias. Como mudei de casa, ainda estou organizando o novo orquidário e sei que melhorias ainda acontecerão por aqui.
