And The Christmas Cactus Awakens

My Wife And I Have Been Watching ..

Our sole Christmas Cactus awakening from the dead. Okay, maybe not the dead, but it's summer sleep. Okay, that's a lie too. It's been growing new leaves all summer long, but not flowering. That is really my point. Our Christmas Cactus is beginning to bloom just in time for Thanksgiving! Bummer.. It will be done and over before Christmas, but that's okay.

I saw it starting to develop the tiny flower buds several weeks ago and a few of them started to open up this weekend. When the morning sun was shinning through that first open flower, a smile came to my face and I snapped off a few pictures. The pictures don't do it's beauty justice.

The plant has really turned a corner after we re-potted it this spring. It was suffering due to old soil and the lack of attention. We also moved it from my home office to a spot on the dividing wall between the breakfast area and the family room. That was a great decision. If we hadn't done those things, it would have probably died.

I can't wait till the other buds open and the entire plant is covered in pink!

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.

That looks like pretty plant. I also liked the tone of the post. It's refreshing to see some goofing along this sea of serious posts. Also, sweet pics.

HAhaa.. Yeah, sometimes I like to throw a little fun and humor into these posts. Thanks for swinging by my blog and thank you for the warm comment 😁

My pleasure, ha, ha, ha. Nice to see pictures and humor together.

I feel like my mom or grandma used to have one of these, but I don't ever remember it flowering. The leaves look really familiar though. I think this is a really beautiful plant. Thanks for sharing! That sucks it will be gone before Christmas.

I see a lot of these all over the place. I think they are a pretty popular holiday plant, sod in most stores this time of year. My grandmom had a plant like this one too. I am trying to remember where we even got this plant and feel like we had it since college days in our apartment. hmmmm...

Great photographs. Good to see the plant flowering now in the Festive season. When did you lose Pepper?

Yes, I'll have to take another picture soon now that there are more flowers open. I lost Pepper about two months ago on September 12th. 😢

So sorry to hear that.
