Sunday Ramble: Monster Upvotes, Censorship... and a Subtle Middle Finger to Steemy

People often talk about "the calm before the storm," but we rarely hear of the opposite: The calm that follows a storm.

It's very quiet in the world. I went for a walk through our neighborhood... the typical sound from the nearby main road was conspicuously absent. As I walked, I also noticed that there were few — if any — planes overhead. That was also unusual; we're roughly on the flight path for SeaTac airport.

Then I went for a DIFFERENT Walk...

Although we have all (mostly!) safely moved to HIVE, I spent some time cruising around Steemlandia today. Like many people, I'm not exactly "done" there, because I have posts that will keep paying out for another five days or so. Then there will be the whole powering down and migrating.

Some part of me was quite sad to see just how much things are already falling apart over there. And posting and retrieving posts seemed... slow.

And then, the new additions to the Steemit TOS: Is forbidden to talk about or promote competing web sites or promote other people. Or something like that. WTF, over??? Not even giant corporate shitfunnels like Facebook do that!

Censorship and... SELF-voting...

Seems the Steemit account has been busy voting... mostly downvoting. Wow! $350.00 downvotes. Talk about overkill. @andrarchy managed to collect two of those.

But then this:

0004SteemitUpvote.jpg

That has to be the biggest self-upvote ever seen! Of course, they "had to" do that to even make their own post visible.

The whole thing was pretty disgusting and depressing.

Poking around a bit more, I could really tell that we took the heart and soul of Steemlandia with us to Hive. And I'm glad it happened!

I Grayed Myself Out... and I Invite You to do the Same!

I'm not interested in causing havoc to our old "home." After all, I'm interested in getting as much value for my Steem as possible, so I can invest it here.

Instead, as a quiet show of non-support I "grayed out" my own account and my alts... just a sort of "memo to myself" that I am done, and a message of solidarity to those who have been censored and downvoted. Ironic, isn't it? Downvoting by the very people who wanted to take away downvoting!

So this is what my page looks like, now:

And my art blog:

And our cat blog:

Removed the color, and currently at 60% opacity for a while. Will probably reset to 40% when the accounts are half powered down, and leave them at a ghostly 20% when all is said and done.

Maybe it's silly, but I kind of like the idea of leaving my "ghost" behind, as a final exit statement. I think it would be even cooler if a bunch of Old-Steemians ghosted as well... leaving a bunch of faded accounts as a monument to our disgust... launching the tag #ghostprofile for this idea, if you care to follow.

And now? I kind of done with grumbling about Steem.

We need to focus on tending to THIS garden, rather than getting bogged down in lamenting the old one!

Hi @denmarkguy glad to see you hiving.

I love the hive project but, like many some of the top witnesses mentioned I’m not keen on so many non Steeminc accounts being excluded from the “airdrop” (see the article from @yabapmatt).

I’m bringing my activity to hive as well but I’ll keep my eye on Steemhunt over at our old home. I’d like to invest some of my Steem here too but I wonder if Blocktrades.us will re-activate the Steem trades pair. That’s the exchange I’ve always used.

One more thing. My avitar and banner didn’t survive the fork. Did yours just appear on its own?

Keep safe friend!

I agree with your point of view and my avatar is gone too.
ionomy.com is the only place to sell steem for btc and buy hive.

@oldtimer, the Korean exchange @probit also has a USDT-HIVE trading pair now.

But you need to sell steem first.

Greetings, Old Dog!

My understanding is that Blocktrades is actually in the process of creating a "live exchange" that will service both Steem and Hive. People will be trading with each other, rather than with Blocktrades. I am not sure what the delivery date will be on that, I think Dan mentioned mid-April.

My banner made it, but my avatar didn't. I use PeakD for pretty much everything, so I re-uploaded both images which were previously stored remotely. I like PeakD because it's just like Steempeak and it has a working wallet function built in.

I will be mostly "here" but also somewhat "there," in part because I also have a good bit of stake in various SCOT tribe tokens, and I want to see how @aggroed works in the new "Hive-Engine" before I do anything too drastic with those.

Yes, I agree the criteria for excluded accounts were a bit draconian... but at least people can appeal to get their Hive tokens.

Stay safe; stay healthy!

Pretty much staying at home. Washington State was where "patient zero" for the US was found, and we're pushing 100 fatalities already. The state is pretty much shut down now; good news is that it has been here long enough that we're starting to see the number in the "green column" (recovered and discharged) rising significantly.

here's a link to ionomy.
I sent and traded steem there today..(to btc as an experiment)

....make me rich by using my affiliate link! lolol

I love the fact that you greyd yourself out, check out that post about the new tool that allows you to delete all yr steem content now it's on hive, i reblogged it last post.

Thanks @revisesociology, I will check it out!

I'm also planning to do the same... heh, not done with the new background yet. Can't get my lazy ass to move... Probably it's because I don't care that much anymore? Lol.
