The Things You See on a Clear Day!

Winter arrived with a snowstorm on last Friday afternoon. Spring seemed to arrive today, five years later.

It wasn't exactly warm, but the sun was out and the world had that "sap rising" feeling to it. We've been sitting in the gray and dark and wet for so long...

This was the first thing that greeted me this morning, when I came outside with Daisy, the dog:

You can tell it's still a juvenile by the white spots on its back.

That's a BIG bird! Bald Eagles have a wingspan up to 7'6" (225cm) and can weigh as much as 14lbs (6.3kg). We see them quite a bit here.. there are at least two nesting pairs within a mile of us.

Not sure if it's rubbing its beak... or looking to break something off to use as nesting material. In any case, it stayed in the dead tree off our back yard for at least 15 minutes... even from about 300 feet away, I got some decent shots.

Closer in, our tiny squirrel (or maybe it's a chipmunk?) has been busy dismantling the cones on the Spanish pine.

Clearly, NOT aware there's a huge bird of prey nearby... or maybe he knows there's not enough meat on his bones to warrant an eagle attack!

He infuriates Shadow the cat by running right in front of my office window, from time to time...

Meanwhile, this bird was having quite a dialogue with the Buddha:

It quite literally sat under the tree with the Buddha for about 10 minutes. Maybe soaking up some wisdom, or having a conversation about enlightenment?

Whatever snow we didn't get down here at sea level definitely fell in the mountains. The Interstate Highway pass saw 50" (127cm) of new snow in the last three days!

Things were actually shut down for about six hours to clear the snow and stuck cars.

Didn't get the best shot of our nearby mountains... but they did briefly put in an appearance from behind the cloud cover.

I'm glad it has snowed quite a lot, because that all becomes our water supply in the summer.

Nope, no heavy duty psychology or philosophical ramblings today... not feeling inspired, so just this picture post.

Thanks for looking and have a great remainder of your week!
