It is actually also popular in Australia but I find lighting up the bbq is simply and very sociable, although I must try this pit braai in the near future it certainly would have a wonderful taste.

I think a sunken pit braai holds the heat longer, also easier to douse out flames if wind picks up.

Big enough to do many different meats and vegetables or breads directly in the fire. Considering spit cook, normal braai, 3 legged pots, the pit if designed well could do a lot!

It does make sense can't wait to try this maybe next time out camping 👍

If in Australia, just don't use old termite holes since they zig-zag underground with dry grass which will have a fire running in no time at all 😁.
