Lunch from the Garden

lunch.jpg

I haven't left my home and garden for well over a month now. While I never considered myself a full-blown prepper, I am not doing too badly in that respect. I have always liked to order things in bulk. If I buy 25 lbs of beans at a time, I am not only saving money, but am also saving on lots of packaging, trips to the store which means less fossil fuel burned and less air pollution.

During this month at home, I did get a co-op delivery that was mostly chicken grains and my family brought me some treats and bread they made. I also traded eggs and greens with a friend for Kombucha.

Otherwise, I have been living from the pantry and the garden.

My lunch above came for the most part from my garden - hence the #grovid20 tag. And I ate it in the garden. That counts too, right?  🤪

On to what you see in the picture:

  • a slice of bread made by my daughter in law
  • eggsalad made from eggs from my chickens, onion greens and garlic greens from the garden
  • topping: radish sprouts from the garden.

The only storebought ingredient was mayonnaise. I do make my own, but still need to use oil from the store since I am not able to make my own.

And this crazy girl was sitting under my chair the whole time wanting some too. She was on a diet yesterday since she hadn't been feeling too well.

If you don't know what #Grovid20 means, let me tell you. @TigerLily started the hashtag when all the posts were about Covid19 and we all were and are so sad about it. #Grovid20 is about sharing our gardens and plants and looking at all the beautiful things we can do now and looking into the positive future!

I love it when a meal comes all from my farm. :)) Yours looked really delicious! No wonder your helper was on the spot!

She is very food driven :)

So neat that you grow your own food! Enjoying your meals outdoors is a big plus during the quarantine!

yes! I am so grateful for having a garden these days!

Fresh out the garden, nothing beats the taste!

Being in the garden, nothing beats having some form of freedom of movement at the moment!

Keep up with positive posts and thoughts it is sustaining!

Chickens and gardens have certainly come in handy, all your hard work paid off. Lunch in the garden looks wonderful. Living in town, I have to make do with landscaping, some blackberries and strawberries, and some herbs. Not to mention that it's still cold here!

They do come in handy and I am very grateful that it is warm here.
I turned my front yard into a veggie garden too :)
And if you live in area that doesn't allow that, I know of a list of "landscape approved" plants that are edible :)

I'd love to have that list!
