The role of shame in Creativity!

I don't know how many times I refuse myself doing anything creative because of the 'Shame'. I know it happens to every one of us. Being creative is not easy but making creativity with shame is an easy job. Maybe you also stopped writing any poem or doing any artwork because people laughed at you. Or you have a fear that people will shame you.

The ground rule is if we don't do any creative work, we can't improve. Obviously, not everyone is as creative as others. Not everyone has a good hand on writing or painting. If it's not the society who takes the role of shaming us, our self-conscious emotions sometimes take the role. Improvisation can make us away from this shaming. But we can't improve if we stopped doing something because of this reason.

There's a famous book named, "Shame and Creativity: From Affect towards Individuation'' written by Vibeke Skov. I didn't read this book but I have read several articles that I think can help us to turn the shame into creativity. Here I'm sharing what I think can help us-

Listening: Yeah, listen to what others are saying about your work. Accept that. It can be a great tool to improve ourselves. Also, listen to yourself. Do take every judgment positively.

The power of the argument. I would not say we have to start a quarrel but we can make a point why we are doing anything creative. There’s no need to be embarrassed or ashamed when your ideas are shamed by others. Rather show them your point of view politely.

Improve yourself. This will resolve every shaming. People will be shamed for their actions if we can do this properly. It helps improvisers take risks and make big choices. And thus help to foster creativity.

It's not easy to stand on your creativity. Being creative is a blessing. So, don't waste it by thinking about what others will think about it. Don't stop doing it, work on it and improve. You don't have to showcase every work, work backdoor and surprise others. Don't feel shame for your hard work. Embrace your creativity and enjoy it!
