Goats and Sheep Life in December

in Homesteadinglast year (edited)

Hello everyone!

I hope you will be enjoying good health. Today I am going to show you how I am taking care and looking after of my cattle. As I have cattle at my home including sheep and goats. It is not an easy job to take care of cattle especially in the winter season in my area. Because in the winter season the grass here becomes dry and it becomes difficult to get grass for the animals.

As December is going on and the last days of December these are the full of fog days.

This is the full and complete flock of cattle at my house. Actually these are at the separate place of my house which is free for these. These are almost 10 and we have bound them all together at one place. From these 10 animals 7 are goat and remaining are sheep.

As in every family there are some members who are furious, so similarly in this cattle family two goats are furious and fight with others. So we have kept them separately and the interesting thing is that they don't fight with each other. One is a female goat and the other is a male goat.

This red is the female goat which is looking at me and feeling cold. We provide them grass separately in a separate container as you can see. We are giving them green grass by cutting it to the small pieces.

We have a grass cutting electric machine which we use to cut the grass. So firstly one person from our family goes to cut and bring the grass at home. We have grown our own grass for the animals because purchasing from others is very costly. So after bringing the grass at home we keep it for a while do that the dew drops and the fog become dry. As the animals do not like dew drops or fog on the grass and they don't eat and sjie attitudinal behaviour. These animals are very clever and intelligent.

So guys after drying the grass in the open air we start cutting it via that grass cutting electric machine which catalyze our work. We provide the full length grass from the back side of the machine opposite from the blades and the blades cut it into small pieces. It is very risky so a lot of care is needed while using this machine because it can cut your fingers, hand, as well as it can fetch your whole arm and can convert it to pieces so proper experience is need to use this machine.

Here is the final product after cutting it into the small pieces and now it is ready to serve the cattle. As I have put it in the container Infront of the furious goats.

As it is cold nowadays so all the time we don't give green grass to the goats and sheep and give them a mixture of feed which includes dry grass and green grass. Dry grass consists of the dried maize 🌽 plants which we collect and store them and cut them with the grass as it saves them from the cold as well as it works for reducing the use of green grass being limited in these days. You can see that now goats and sheep are being served with that special food of dry and green grass.

We also collect the dry hay for the animals as it is very necessary in the cold days. It keeps them warm and protect them from the cold. It plays vital role during the rainy days in the winter. Because animals do not eat wet grass then they eat this hay and pass their day. Sometimes eating only green grass results in the loose motions to the animals and use if this hay protects them from the loose motions as well.

Today I went with my father to get hay from the friend of my father as he has a big collection of hay from their grains and fields. So I took a sack with me and we reached there via bike the weather was very cold 🥶. After reaching there they directed us to their store where the hay was available for their own use.

So we started filling our sack as you can see in the pictures. I was shaking the sack and was hitting it to the ground to fill the sack completely without leaving any space for a needle. So after filling it fully we came back. It was very foggy and on the way due to fog we were about to slip and my father saying stop the bike stop the bike because the sack was about to fall on the ground 😅 but I didn't listen to him and stopped at my house door 🤣. He taunted me then I said sorry.

One more thing that my mother also feeds them is wheat bread fried in the oil. It gives them more strength and power to fight with the cold and to remain healthy and strong.

As it is the winter season guys so there should be a protective tent for the animals for their stay at night because at night there is very cold. So we have made tents for them. You will be surprised that fir the furious goats the tent is also separate.

So here you can see those two goats have been put at their special separate pavilion. In order to cover the openings we have made doors.

Here is the other big tent for the remaining cattle family. So the remaining goats and sheep sleep and stay at night in this tent while protecting themselves from the cold.

So in this way we are protecting our cattle by feeding them different things. And I hope you all will love it.
