IMAGE 2025-07-02 12:15:22.jpgtoday, after treating the roof with Borax, I am laying the shingles. it is the first time I work with this system, but it is very straight forward.
this roof type is commonly used in other parts of Europe, mainly France, where this cabin was originated from. not so known and common in Portugal, which complicates the obtaining of the necessary accessories. we had to order the special short, wide headed nails from a source in France.

IMAGE 2025-07-02 12:15:28.jpgIt wasn´t me who mounted the cabin, and I do know it has been deformed slightly as the wood dries as the main doors frame is no longer a perfect square, but I am pleased to see that so far the roof is a nice square and the shingles fit nicely. I try to work as precise as I possibly can to avoid a growing error. looking good so far.

I was amazed to see how well the chosen color blends in with the surrounding trees and I reckon it will be invisible from space !

I start working as early as light allows to see enough at 6 O´clock and by 10 or 11 max, the shingles become too hot to handle and this is when I call it a day. more tomorrow.
