Day-to-day as a Natural Builder ((part 3))

in Homesteading13 days ago (edited)

Hello homesteading community!

It is another rainy Friday. Nature has given me a break from outdoor work and I am grateful! Every day this week has been filled with working on our DIY build as well as cooking and cleaning for our house full of guests. I am really tired of all the chores and so excited to spend a bit of time sharing with you all the on-goings of our DIY build.

While my partner and his dad have been making the windows for the house and searching for materials in the city, I have been busy with the plastering. Some day my bestie helps out, other days I am working alone. Everyday involves lots of mud.

No complaints here. I would so much rather spend my time working on these walls than cooking and cleaning. But, of course, my lot in life is to do a lot of the later as well. While my current home is dark and dank and creates a grumpy atmosphere for my domestic duties, I see my future home shaping up to be light and breezy. There will be lots of natural light and lots of natural materials all around. While I currently wash plates and cook meals in a dark, moldy kitchen my future situation will have an actual window!!!

Working with such beauty and seeing the transformation unfold in front of my eyes is really getting me inspired to share our journey in video form. And so, while the rest of the house is enjoying their "siesta" after lunch, I have been editing the latest installment of our DIY building journey.

I shared the video on 3speak yesterday but, sadly, it didn't gain much traction. So, I want to drop the youtube link here just in case you missed it and are curious to see how we make earthen plasters with totally natural materials to protect the wood/mud/straw walls of our home.

I also want to share my journey as a woman building with natural materials. Sadly, there isn't much representation of women in the conventional building world. I get it though, I am so over trying to break into male dominated fields. Natural building, however, in my personal experience is a field for all kinds of people. Women in particular seem drawn to working with earth in this way. And so, I want to represent my humble perspective of building homes made of mud that are also modern too.

I would really appreciate it if you gave my video a watch, maybe even a like too!

Thanks!! I so agree, just have to continue on, wall by wall 💚

Congratulations on how the house is coming along! It's fantastic to see how it's progressing! Soon the house will be finished and you'll be able to laugh about the whole laborious and exhausting process!

I am so glad that you like these updates!! and thank you for the kind support.
