OUR BABY
*Simba, his paw over my hand as he sucks my finger like a pacifier, as he falls asleep.
Don't let the picture above trick you.π As I'll start off by saying this, our DΓ¬onadair Simba, is becoming quite a badass. Although not quite seven months old...Almost completely gone are his clumsy puppy days... Replaced by a sure-footed, athletic, fit and insanely agile "young man" puppy.
*When we walk the paths of our forest, he "holds my hand" by biting onto my pants gently as he walks along side me.ππ₯°π
OUR BADASS
There is definitely a flip side to the coin. He proved this the other day as he and Onree finally caught up with the groundhog that had so much to do with destroying our garden.
*This is the culprit here.π
I was at the cabin when I heard all the commotion. Both the dogs were raising cane and when I got to them I saw they had the intruder pinned in a corner and we're awaiting me to arrive to show me what they had done... And to issue either the release or the attack command.
Obviously I wasn't going to let a free meal for the hounds go free, and allow said meal to continue to eat on our garden meals. I issued the "full kill" command, and was surprised by what happened...
Simba did NOT attack. Onree went full in! I believe he stood back because he knew she wanted it.(or so she thought π)
THE BATTLE ENSUES!!!
Onree rushed full in at the groundhog, and her first bite was at its side and belly. As soon as she had a hold, and I mean as soon as she had a hold, she begun to shake it violently. The groundhog, weighing all of ten pounds or so, however was just a little more than she could handle and it was able to get a good bite on her. She whelped a loud bit when it happened, and while the groundhog may have thought it just saved it's own life...it had just signed it's own death sentence...
The very moment Onree cried out, Simba let out the most aggressive growl/bark I've ever heard him make. The instant the groundhog hit the ground, Simba was right over him. He went to grab the groundhog up but as he did, it bit onto the side of his face...Simba was not happy about this, and in his attempt to remove this newfound nuisance he ended uo spinning in circles...fast enough the groundhogs legs were flailed out like spinning a kid in circles by holding their hands.ππ€£
This method of removal actually worked, as the ground problem only it could hold on for a few spends and then released and hit the ground. Simba, was again on top of him as soon as he hit the ground and this time slightly quicker as he was able to get him bit up in his mouth and began to shake and violently. However, the groundhog was able to get a bite of him again on his neck and Simba resorted to the same spinning technique to get him to release.
This time however, Simba had a different plan of attack. And instead of going for the stomach or his sides. I watched as Simba went over the top of him and put the head of the groundhog and its mouth, and with a quick cruch/pop noise the fight had ended.
*Simba after getting to play hero, and Onree looking up at her knight in shining armor.π
I know some will say or think this is not appropriate. The purpose of thispost is to mark Simba's largest kill to date, and to show how he's doing. But also, the groundhog cost us quite a loss of food from our garden. He will provide a meal or maybe two for Simba, and that in turn save a little cash.π So, hopefully, you all can understand. Also, although the groundhog has some pretty big tough teeth...
...not even a wolf can penetrate through the hide of an Anatolian Shepherd, so Simba was never in any danger. And since he is also Onree's protector, she was in no danger either. Both were checked for wounds afterwards, and were perfect!
Anyway, some cute puppy pics for all us to enjoy.ππ€π€

Oh. Simba looks so beautiful. I enjoyed reading this article mostly because I'm a big fan of dogs. The most interesting part is that Molly, my German Shepherd also killed a pouched rat in my garden today.
I knew Molly had hunter skills and instincts but I never expected her to be that fast. My phone was not with me, and if I had gone inside to take it, I would've missed the whole thing.
Molly is 1 year old. About 1 month ago, she gave birth to seven pups (sadly, 1 died). She is still very energetic and I hope to spend a lot of time with her.
Thanks for sharing. My regards to Simba and Onree.ππ
Stopping by! I'm glad you enjoyed the read. Molly sounds like an amazing dog! I think that most of our dogs are actually Hunter killers down inside. I think they just need the opportunities and most of them don't get it. I hope you have a great day and a wonderful weekend!
Great that Simba is up to the taskπ
Yes he is! And it is good practice for him or soon enough people more than likely encounter bobcats or coyotes during his tenor as our homestead guardian. We send our love to you and yours mate!π€π€
It's always good to have a four legged warrior protecting your house! Loyal to the death, but with you backing him up; the pair should handle any threat.
I had to pull my miniature dachshund off of a pit bull, to save the pitbull! They can be protective....
You have a sweet boy there, and bodes well for his usefulness later. Glad he cleaned out this garden threat!
