HELLO HIVE
The signs of feather loss and poor posture are a huge sign of an underlying health issue for the birds, and the big challenge is identifying what that issue might be before coming up with a way to curb it if it requires some control in the case of infectious disease that could ravage the whole business if care isn't taken.
It's very common to see signs of feather loss in broilers, while many farmers see it as a sign that the broilers are growing fatter than they should; I really don't think that's the genuine reason for this.
There are broilers that grow way bigger than this within weeks, and their feathers are very much intact, which means that there has to be something wrong from our end as farmers, and to fix this, an understanding of their feed, shelter, and the weather, most especially, has to come into consideration. By observing each of these measures, we come up with an ideal cause and a way out if there's any chance of keeping the birds alive in cases of severe infections.
The feed has been okay because it's mainly commercial feed with a little amount of locally made feed.
There's been no sign of infection from the birds, and we haven't recorded any sick birds yet, which leaves their shelter as the most common cause of this.
They look small for the quantity of birds; at first, when the birds were just a week old, the shelter felt a little too big for the birds, but as time goes by, they grow, and the more they do so, the more their shelter becomes smaller and the more the chances of stress, pecking behavior, overcrowding, and poor nutrition if the birds feed quantity isn't changed.
Healthy practices give a good chance of a huge financial return; the more you invest your money, time, and energy, the greater the chances of getting a good financial return as a poultry farmer.
