HELLO HIVE
The rising cost of feed has eaten into my profit. Making poultry farming less sustainable 🐔, at this pace, this might only get worse with the price of materials for the feed increasing at an astronomical rate.
Making your own personal poultry feed is now the game-changing way to save money and control the quality and nutritional content of the feed we are giving our birds 🐔.
Practically making our feeds is not a big deal;
just a small understanding of the basic contents of the feed will help a lot since it's not like I revamped their feed completely.
All I did was to make some tweaks to their feed from materials that are expensive, like the materials used in their commercial feed that I used to buy. Instead, we make use of materials that are less expensive but have a good level of the required body nutrients.
To cut costs, we make use of locally available materials, which are less expensive compared to those used in commercial feeds.
For the carbohydrate content of the feed, I made use of maize that was gotten from a maize mill close by. The maize is not a hundred percent maize material because it was gotten from the bruised part of the maize that a lot of people are milling for their meals.
This part used to be a waste, but now it's become important to the owners of the mills who are making money from selling to poultry farmers and poultry farmers who are feeding it to their birds with it.
Every other part of their meal is still the same; the idea is to buy commercial feeds and mix them up with the maize before feeding the birds.
The only slight adjustment is the addition of a protein source to balance the nutritional quality of their feed; it's either I add soybeans to their meal or I make use of dried fish scraps that you can get from fish sellers.
Homemade feed is a practical way to cut costs while ensuring your birds get quality nutrition.
