Hello Hive

A happy new week to my Hive family. I hope that the new week will bring so much joy and happiness. We are in a joyful season, and I hope that we all find the happiness our hearts desire.
Talking about the season, this is the season for eating and drinking and especially different forms of feasting, ceremonies, and enjoyment.

Won't you probably be eating a whole lot of meat in this season?

Well, this may be true for most people around here who may not have been blessed with the privilege of having a piece of meat in their meals. Christmas is always the time of the year when most families do all they can to ensure that they have some meat for their meals and for visitors who may be stopping by their homes.

Over the years we got used to buying meat from the market or buying a whole chicken, but as soon as the prices began to climb higher than expected, we decided to grow our own birds, and that was how we began poultry farming.
We don't always grow a large number of birds but just a few to provide some meat for us in this season.

There is a lot of benefit in growing your own birds; you get to regulate the poultry feed being given to these birds to your own taste.

Most people complain of eating too many chemicals in their meals, especially canned meats, which is not healthy for their health, but I hope that they are aware that they grow their own birds to their taste and provide some healthy meat for their families.

Most commercial poultry farmers are only after their profit; they overfeed the birds and give them an overdose of growth enhancer such that 6-week-old birds look grown and healthy enough for food. These are the chemicals we eat directly in foods.

Everything must be done in moderation for whatever agricultural endeavor we engage in, whether it be food crops or animal or poultry farming. We must endeavor to grow and eat healthy foods. The excesses people engage in for profit have been the cause of many health challenges people face in the long run. Some of these agriculturally engineered components may not be harmful, and they were only produced for beneficial purposes and become harmful only when consumed in excess.

Always eager to eat more food.

Growing our own poultry means that we have done everything in moderation: the feeding, vaccination, and almost no need for growth enhancers. We allow them to spend a max of 13 weeks before harvest, and they grow at their own pace.

These birds here are owned by my sister, but I will definitely get my own share of the meat, which my sis is willing to share with me. Now I enjoy these broiler birds even more than the locally grown ones that are grown by the free-range system within the neighborhood.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the turkey that was hatched early this year. The month of February was the birth month of this turkey, and you can see her size after about 9 months. I never believed or imagined that turkey can be grown and harvested within that same year until I followed the growth stages of this turkey keenly.

For now we only grow the chicken we eat. I had desired for a long time to go into poultry farming; perhaps I will grow some healthy birds for my community and sell them off at a much more affordable price for everyone, but to engage in this kind of farming in large quantity, I would be needing a landed property that is fenced and safe and then a capital of at least $200 to buy some birds and their feed. From there we can get a business started Until then I will

There is a friend of mine whose mum engages in these kind of farming and I often go there most time to assist with work of taking care of the birds hence I have gained a lot of experience with raising poultry birds. She has a variety of birds in her compound and upon my next visit you will get to see more of her birds rabbits and numerous species there. We purchase a day old bird and ensure that they stay alive and grow healthily till harvest

I'll keep myself busy with the food crops.
