In the autumn seems absolutely fine to me. And you shouldn't think twice when the first green stalks peek out of the ground in November. The garlic is absolutely suitable for winter. If you decide to plant strawberries (preferably month strawberries, which produce fruit all year round) as neighbours, you should plant these little plants in August. Carrot seeds or spinach go into the ground together with the garlic in autumn.
