The 2025 World Health Day was celebrated on this day, 7th of April. Just like any other "world day" celebration, this wasn't without one. Several persons, agencies, institutions have been spotted online preparing for the day. Some gearing towards some sort of seminar, programs, initiatives, awareness. The town I currently reside wasn't left out in this effort.
The OBAROH De Humph Foundation partnered with NASCO Company in Jos metropolis of Plateau State to provide healthcare services and awareness on this day. The initiative which was aimed at raising funds to support patients with medical challenges—nursing mothers and babies inclusive. It was tagged "Walk for Health" in due commemoration of the World Health Day.
While it focused on raising funds to support the health needs of the needy individuals, it also featured other activities; a walk, a health talk and a free product sampling from the NASCO Company. The convergence for the event was at the roundabout, by the NASCO Company building, where registrations were done for the first 200 persons that will later benefit from the free product sampling. This went on till around 9AM when it was time for the walk to begin.
More than 200 persons walked from the roundabout culminating it at the Secretariat junction within the Jos metropolis. It was a nice walk as the 200 plus persons walked in good cheer to the sound of music; some dancing as well. Few persons carried banners and others donation boxes for the fundraising support. Many gathered in solidarity, advocating for an improved healthcare provision and access for vulnerable persons. At the Secretariat junction, the segment of the health talk rolled in.
First to address the crowd was the Chairman of the Plateau State Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Kumtap Yilji. In his address, he made it known to the organisers, led by Mr. Humphrey Oroh, of NMA's support for such initiatives in the future, while beckoning on the general public and partners to support the beautiful course.
Next, the Director of the Obaroh Humph Global Foundation, Mr. Humphrey Oroh came on board. He went ahead to state the purpose of the initiative; which was to raise awareness and provide life-saving medical support to the needy, with respect to pregnant women and their babies majorly.
The Customer Relationship Manager of NASCO, Stephen Adejo, came on to add that the company NASCO, maintains a commitment of service to humanity. Therefore, it has found it needful to partner with the foundation for the course of the initiative, and to donate as well.
At the end of the health talk and address, the crowd all walked once again back to the roundabout at NASCO under the sound of some music. There, Fisayo Adeloye, a participant and winner of the Walk for Health social media challenge considered as "Butifah and the Team" showed appreciation for the generous prize of 200,000 naira cash prize. Adding they will support the foundation with a percentage of the prize money.
With that, the event was brought to a close. NASCO Company was however generous in this partnership to provide the participants in this walk with some refreshments. It was at this point also that the free product sampling of the NASCO Company was carried out. The first 200 persons who registered were offered the privilege to benefit of this. It was indeed a wonderful product from NASCO who I believe will enjoy the patronage of its customers. Everyone present that availed themselves for the initiative and the walk went with some refreshments.
World Health Day was a major one for me this year. Being able to partake in the initiative made it more alive within me. And I can say that beyond the World Health Day, every patient out there and everyone in need of some medical healthcare needs our support. It's something I'll love to do—always.
