After a few weeks, we were finally able to leave the hospital with our baby. It seemed like the old Eliezer had returned. (Fast forward) Sean is now two years old, and our relationship is going well. I had managed to save money for Sean's operation to improve his condition and give him a chance at a normal life. However, when Sean turned three, I started to suspect that Eliezer had relapsed into drug use once again.
One day, a thought crossed my mind to check the hiding place where I had kept the money I had saved for Sean's operation. To my utter shock, I discovered that the substantial amount I had diligently saved had vanished, as if it had disappeared into thin air, only to be replaced by worthless pieces of paper. Overwhelmed by anger and frustration, I confronted Eliezer and, in my rage, resorted to physical violence, hitting him and slapping him forcefully. I was devastated that he had chosen drugs over the well-being of his own child.
My actions were driven by a combination of anger, frustration, and a deep sense of betrayal.
Years went by, and both of us underwent significant changes. Unfortunately, my husband fell back into the grip of drug addiction, and I was consumed by anger towards his actions. Our son, Sean, is now five years old, and it was during the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic when everyone was struggling. To make matters worse, my husband lost his job due to the lockdown measures imposed. On top of that, we had to navigate Sean's medical needs, adding to the mounting pressure.
Tragically, my husband's addiction led him down a destructive path, and he was eventually caught and imprisoned for his involvement with illegal drugs. In the face of these overwhelming challenges, I felt a sense of hopelessness and despair. However, no matter how dire the circumstances, I summoned my inner strength and did everything in my power to ensure the well-being and survival of my child.
Despite the restrictions imposed during the pandemic, which prohibited children from going outside, I made a bold decision to venture out, disregarding the potential consequences. My sole focus was on securing our survival for the sake of my child. I took on the role of a street vendor, selling banana cue, homemade buko juice, and lemon juice in the local market known as Bagsakan sa Naga. During this time, entrusted Sean's care to my mother-in-law, taking extra precautions to keep him hidden under the table to avoid any unwanted attention.
(Fast forward) In 2021, I made the difficult decision to leave my husband, who was still in jail, and return to our hometown of Bogo City. The situation had become unbearable, and I felt that I could no longer handle it. After a few months of being back in Bogo City, I met someone new named Nelson. I understand that it may be seen as a mistake, and I apologize for my human imperfections, but Nelson filled the voids that were missing in my relationship with my husband. We found happiness together and built a life.
However, after a few months, I received an unexpected call, and to my surprise, it was my ex-husband, Eliezer. At first, I had no interest in reconnecting with him as I had firmly made up my mind that our relationship was over and that I didn't want to be with him anymore. But somehow, I discovered that he had moved on and found someone else. It was painful for me to realize that he had found a new partner after his release from prison.
It is important to acknowledge that moving on and finding new relationships is a natural part of life. While it may have initially hurt to learn about my ex-husband's new partner, I had already made the decision to move forward and find happiness with Nelson.
However, Eliezer's determination and persistence never wavered. He continuously reached out, expressing his desire for a second chance to make amends for his past mistakes. I found myself torn and confused, as I didn't want my son, Sean, to endure the same pain he had experienced before. However, a close friend of mine offered some valuable advice that made me reconsider my stance. They suggested, "Why not give him another opportunity? If it doesn't work out, at least you won't have any regrets." This perspective resonated with me, prompting me to make the difficult decision to return to my husband's side and end things with Nelson (though we had a heartfelt conversation about it, and both of us were understanding). Eliezer also ended his relationship with the other woman.
And now, here we are, living together as a united family, brimming with happiness and love. Our bond has only grown stronger, without a trace of doubt or hesitation. It serves as a testament to the power of forgiveness and the significance of second chances.. My son deserves nothing but the very best, and I couldn't be prouder of my husband for leaving behind his vices and transforming into a more responsible father and husband.
I want to emphasize that as human beings, we are all susceptible to making mistakes and facing challenges in our lives. It is through these experiences that we learn and grow, striving to make better choices in the future.
