I didn't realise there was such a big difference in prizes between the classic league and H2H - I think that I'll need to change my focus next season! But 3 years in a row... Maybe I'll just spend a few more hours each Gameweek working things through 🤣
Congratulations to all the prize winners - I look forward to some of these match-ups next season!
Being able to utilise MEDALS on Sportsblock then we can look at adding additional incentives for the H2H without fear of running out of Hive to payout at the end of the season.
The idea was always to use those H2H leagues to keep users motivated throughout the season which has worked but the original funding model was for the Classic League only and is entirely reliant on the support of big stakeholders upvoting the posts.
We can add weekly MEDALS payouts for H2H wins but I'd also like to look at using the MEDALS pool to reward users who are interacting, sharing tips, etc.
Ultimately, I'd like to build a standalone fantasy game on Sportsblock that takes the best bits from fantasy sports across the world and rolls them into an FPL game and would be truly scalable.
I enjoy the H2H league. I hadn't ever really played H2H until you started this league and I really like how it's a slightly different strategy to the Classic League.
I assume that historically, all contests have relied upon support from large stakeholders and the existing reward pool. I also assume that a lot of contests have quietly disappeared after not receiving the expected support. I'm just guessing though!
I'm not going to pretend that I understand tokens or MEDALS and what to do with them (other than gamble them away on the sportsbook 😂). Perhaps one day, I'll have the mental capacity to understand!
I always liked the idea of a Fantasy Football game that enforced a specific formation - like 4-2-3-1 and you have to pick the players based upon the formation. I've never quite had the energy to see it through though.
On Hive, you’ve probably got 3 options for funding
1 - the reward pool
2 - a proposal to the decentralised fund
3 - an entry fee
I’d see any development on Sportsblock as being a combination of 2 & 3 albeit that the Sportsblock fund is centralised so we’re appealing to Blanchy and Niallon to back us. Some people might argue the Hive fund is centralised too given it takes support from a few whales to actually get a proposal funded.
My initial thought was a mix between Sorare and FPL where users pay MEDALS to buy players. The pricing would be far more dynamic than on FPL creating opportunities to buy low sell high. Users still score points and those points still count towards league positions and H2H matches which in turn generate rewards but at the same time you could run a ‘money ball’ type team
Oh, interesting... I've only done a little bit on Sorare (and never for real money) - the dynamics of the pricing is always interesting.
I've had a similar thought before about the Draft style and how to transfer players between teams - your team does well, you win money - which you can then choose to reinvest in your team or withdraw. Each time a player gets transferred, his price increase by x.
I don't know if you've ever played La Liga Fantasy (?) but that has a similar concept. A player has a value and if somebody "bids" at that value (which can't be less than you paid) then the player is transferred. You can increase the value of a player by €2m at a cost of €1m. You could always sell a player back to the pool for a random percentage of their value - sometimes more, often less. You have a maximum squad size and can only pick 11 players each week (no subs - non players score 0). I really enjoyed that version but it only works if everybody in the league is completely committed which in our FPL league, there are certainly enough who aren't.
Yeah I’ve thought of something similar and it’d fit well on web3 because essentially what you’re talking about is trading NFTs so the technology already exists. You’ve just gotta work out the fantasy points allocation but that’d be as easy as taking a snap shot of all assets at a particular point (game week deadline) and then assigning points accordingly.
Blanchy is on holiday at the moment but we can start to bother him next week with these ideas 😂
Good thinking!
Don’t relax @blanchy we’ve got work to do ⬆️
