The state Liverpool is in right now, this season, keeps on shocking me, as it doesn't seem the team is learning from their past mistakes. In the space of three days, Liverpool conceded seven goals at Anfield and lost two matches at home. This is now becoming embarrassing, as any team can come to Anfield and easily get three points because the players don't seem to even care to do their jobs on the field. It is no news that Liverpool's current defence is in shambles because I honestly don't know what Konate and Virgil Van Dijk are doing in that role.
Both players have become so bad that they can't even go two games without conceding a goal and for years Virgil Van Dijk has been the pinnacle of Liverpool's defense and I can still remember some years back when the commentator use to say Virgil Van Dijk was the main pillar of the defence and each time Liverpool have issues at the backline then it means Van Dijk is not on the pitch with the team. The Dutchman, as a defender, finished in the top three of the Ballon d'Or, which just shows how good he used to be a few years back.
The goal for the Liverpool board is to get a defender in the January transfer window at all costs, as that is the main problem of the squad right now. Liverpool has only been linked to Marc Guehi for the possibility of the English defender coming to the club in January, but I am sceptical it will happen because if we couldn't get him during the summer window what is the possibility that Crystal Palace will let him leave when the season is entering its crucial stage next year? Crystal Palace blocked the move from Guehi to Liverpool during the summer as they see the Englishman as part of their plans in the long run.
Now I doubt they will hold on to him that long with the interest big clubs have in the player. Barcelona has also set its eyes on him in the coming summer window, which means Crystal Palace has to do whatever it takes to convince Marc Guehi to stay at the club for the long term. The Englishman will be one to watch out for in the summer window next year. Liverpool are not linked to any defender except Marc Guehi, which is kind of worrying, and come to think of it, which top defender 8s out there now that any club will be willing to let go this January? Giovanni's ACL injury shouldn't have happened; this is why Arne Slot is out of options at the backline.
It is times like this I miss Klopp because he would have looked within the academy and tried out one youngster to play for the first team. Arne Slot is not under fire from the board, as he has had meetings, and the board trusts his project. I already knew that winning the Premier League last season would give him the upper hand within the board. Liverpool will play away from home against West Ham this afternoon and there is no expectation I have for this match, but let's see how the result will turn out in the end.

To salvage something this season,the
upcoming Premier League clash against West Ham should be a must win,to preserve their title contending momentum, ease fixture congestion pressures, and boost squad morale before critical Champions League fixtures that could elevate their European position.Good luck.
