We are the first generation to feel the effect of climate change and the last generation who can do something about it.” Barack Obama, Former US President

Global warming is a condition wherein our earth's atmosphere is getting hotter and hotter because of too much carbon and other greenhouse gases. Although these gases are also important because without the greenhouse gases our planet Earth will be as cold as ice. But too much of these gases is not good or dangerous. Why do we have too much of these gases at this moment? Do you have any idea? Well, it's because of industrialization and new inventions like smoke-belching vehicles, factories, and others. Aside from that, it's because of human destruction of our ecosystem like cutting trees and destroying our mountains and other forest resources. Many of our lands were converted into residential and commercial spaces. Thus many of our trees were cut down. The government is now worried about this situation. What might be the future of our next generation if we don't act now? So if we have no solution now, all will suffer in the future.

Global warming will also result in climate change. With this phenomenon, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources together with DepEd launched a project called A Gift for Children: 236k Matatag Tree Planting Project. This project aims to produce 236,000 trees by encouraging all schools in the entire country to plant trees of at least 5 kinds. With this project, students will also learn to value the importance of trees to our environment and our lives as well. With that, all schools in the entire country participated in the said project. The simultaneous tree planting activity was done last December 6, 2023.

Before the Tree Planting activity, we prepared the area to be planted first. Since we don't have MOA with the land owner, we decided to have our tree planted outside the school fence but it's part of the school according to the latest land survey results. We cleared the land by cutting shrubs and pulling out some tall grasses, digging holes, and preparing tree guards. We also gathered seedlings of Langka and coconut for we know that those seedlings are available anytime and are easy to grow.

The activity was participated by the Parents Teachers Association Officers, Officers of the Students' School Government, Teachers, and Non-Teaching and Student Teachers from Cebu Technological University. After planting we watered it and installed Tree Guard. But the activity does not end there, since we must take care of these trees for growth and survival. On the other hand, I hope that this project will help our environment by reducing greenhouse house gases to minimize global warming.
