We made the tour this year. There were eleven members in our Group. We all have a common interest in tracking and hiking. And the place we visit this time is The Bandarban District. Bandarban is a hilly District and it’s full of natural resources and beauty beyond your imagination. In this tour we covered the Nafakhum and Amiakhum trail in two days.

Boat Journey

From my earlier post you already know that we were in Thanchi and already board into our boats with our guide. Our boat would ply on the Sangu River.
Sangu River is one of the most attractive site of Bangladesh. The depth of the river is very low in some places you need to get of and push the boat. There are rocks under the river. Rocks means not pebble it means big rocks and big stones. But the current of the river is very high. And to my knowledge it has one of the strongest current among the rivers of Bangladesh.

Our boat journey started almost at 13 o'clock. In the starting point, the it was pretty deep. We couldn’t see the bottom of the river. The tranquillity of the hills were broken by the loud noise of the engine of our boat. After going for 5-10 minutes there was no network bar on our cell phones. We could see big hills and forest around us. Side of the hills were covered with cripple plants and bushes and they look fascinating.

There were also tribal people farming on the hill sides. We see some nut field by the hill side. The water was crystal clear and cold. We could see the rocks under the water. Suddenly we saw long not long very long bamboo raft. I hadn’t seen any of this in my life before. Our boat was running through all these beauties. We started to have our lunch on the boat. We were hungry, the food also tasted good. After finishing our lunch we were enjoying the views. Suddenly the boat got stuck. We all need to vacant the boat and got down into water and pushed it.

Then again we got into it and started the journey. Several minutes after that the boat man said that we need walk a short distance because there wasn’t enough depth to float the boat. So we all got off the boat and started to walk our guide came along with us too. We were enjoying the trail but after few moments it had became a pain for us. There was hot sand and pebbles on the trail. So we walk through them because there wasn’t another option. After walking for 15 minutes we reached the other side of that island and our boats were waiting for us. We soaked our legs with cold water and boarded into the boat.

We were crossing the river, there were few rafts carrying goods and local people. there were some houses and stalls too by the hill side. We saw a construction of a new army camp was going on. We noticed a place with few stalls. That place is called "Poddo Jhiri". It’s another route of going Nafakhum.

If we took this trail we need walk more distance than this trail. And above all this path is more dangerous and adventure. As there were 5 girls in our group so we didn’t take that route. But I will take this route next time if I visit here. After half an hour boat stopped its engine near some huge rocks. They were the biggest rocks in the river. The biggest one is called "Raja Pathor", the second was called " Rani Pathor" and there were some more. They worship these two rocks. We need to go through these rocks and we could touch them too. There were many crush spot on those rocks.

Then we travel for another half an hour enjoying the beauty and reached Remakri. Our boat stop in a spot where the water level was about my knees. So we made a line of eleven and passed our baggages over our head from one by one to the shore. From there we would start our walking track.

Remakri is a small village. The population of this place is considerable There were few stalls there. People were having bath in the river. Childern gathered around us and watching us. Shopkeeper were calling us to buy some products. All on a sudden It feels like I ain't anymore in Bangladesh. The people around were not Bangladeshi and they were treating us a Foreign people. We entered in a stall have tea, biscuits, fruits take some rest there. We were now ready to walk. The sun was shinning brightly above our heads. There were hot sand pebbles under our feet. The guide told us to move on or it will be too late. So started to walk.
I will let you know about our walking trail to Nafakhum, The fascinating waterfall, how we walk in the night for 6 hours, our fire camp on our next post. Till then be safe and keep safe.
