We made the tour this year. There were eleven members in our Group. We all have a common interest in tracking and hiking. And the place we visit this time is The Bandarban District. Bandarban is a hilly District and it’s full of natural resources and beauty beyond your imagination. In this tour we covered the Nafakhum and Amiakhum trail in two days.

The Tracking

From my previous post you knew that we had completed our boat journey and now we were at Remakri. From here our walking trail will begin.
After taking some rest in Remakri we headed for Nafakhum where we would see a beautiful water fall. The place got his name from this Waterfall. This very waterfall is called Nafakhum.

The clock passed the two. We were following our guide. The trail went through the hills and forest. The sun was still shinning above our head. The breeze was blowing around us. We were walking between hills. We could hear birds chirping, insects buzzing. There was no one around us. The clear blue sky above our head stones and sands beneath our feet. After walking for 20 mins straight we entered into the forest.

We got relief from the sun. We were walking over rocks, sometime we need to walk through water, sometimes edge of the hills. In some places the edges were too narrow to go. We need to take every step very carefully. If made a mistake we would fall from edge and hit the rocks beneath. There were canals around us too that were made from the waterfall. We walked through this beauties for an hour. After a long journey we all were pretty tired. So we take some rest for 5 mins. Drink glucose, water, eat some snacks and again started to walk.

The sun had started to change it’s position. The heat is also cooling down. The afternoon had started to begin. We were walking sometimes to cheer our self we sung, talking to each other noticing beautiful sites of the hills, jungle flowers, birds. We walked for 3 hours and took some rest on the way.

Now were walking beside a stream. As we were going forward the current of the stream was raising. The current raising indicates one thing that is a waterfall is near by. After few minutes we could hear a light sound of water falling. So we became excited. The tiredness seemed to be vanished with a blink of eye. We speed up our walk. From a far distance we could see the beauty awaiting for us. Those who were behind me I shouted with joy that the waterfall is just some few steps away from us. Came quickly. Everyone got excited. When we were near the waterfall we almost ran towards it. There were some tourists enjoying the beauty of Nafakhum.

When everyone arrived we put our baggages together and get into the water. After walking for hours the cold water of Nafakhum seemed like a blessing. I had my bath on the water fall. We were sitting on the rocks of the waterfall and getting drenched. We took photos there. I was just admired to see its beauty, the environment around Nafakhum made its beauty more mysterious. We passed about half an hour there. Then our guide told us to move on because it will be dark soon. And walking in the dark will be more challenging. We refilled our water bottles and started to follow Mr. Martin.

From Nafakhum we would go to the Jinnahpara a small village where we would rest for the night. The guide told us it’s not very far. The sun went down without giving us a notice. The sky was decorated with several colours. The chirping of the birds Couldn't be heard. Only the sounds of dried leaves and insects was around us. It was like the hill had changed its mode into something mysterious. We brought out our flash lights. We couldn’t see the tracks, we couldn't even tell what we were stepping on. Two of us went behind of the line, kept the girls on the middle of the line and were following the guide blindly. I looked at my watch its almost 8 at night we were walking straight almost two hours by taking any rest. We asked the guide how much time would need to reach. He said we were almost there 10-15 mins only. But 10 mins passed about half an hour ago.

Suddenly there was something happened in the front of the line. Someone slipped but other grabbed her. We were walking along a narrow edge and there was a gap between the track and she didn’t notice it. Thanks to Almighty that nothing bad happened there. We all find difficulties to cross that place. After that crossing we might walked another hour and the guide was telling every time it would take only ten minutes to reach. But we didn’t know when the 10 mins would end. After finishing the hill tracking we came to a open space between two hills. The place was full of pebbles nd sands. The girls got really tired. It was very much challenging for the boys too. We we decided to take some rest.

We were felling cold. So gathered some dried branches and put them together to make fire. We were hardly talking to each other. The strength wasn’t enough to continuing a conversation. We light the fire every one was sitting beside the fire. Relaxing muscles, treating wounds that occurred during tracking. Some didn’t know that they got hurt and now they were noticing it. The sky was full of thousands of stars. The hills around, the forests, the calmness, a little light from the fire was making us fatigued. I was just sinking in the environment. We waste 20 mins there. And its time to move. The clock was telling us it had passed nine.

There was a big ditch of water where we were resting now we need to cross it. It was pretty deep but was able to cross it by walking. The water level was below my waist. 2.5-3 feet deep almost. We crossed the ditch and now there was two way one on the right and one the left. Guide told us to go on the right after walking for few minutes we end up to another ditch. We cross it again. And was going forward. But suddenly the guide told us we were at wrong route. We were middle of the forest totally unknown in the middle of the night and there were five girls with us and the man who is guiding us lost the trail. I think you can imagine the anxiety that we felt back there. But we had nothing to do but rely on the guide. We turned back and again need to cross the ditch and came to first ditch that we cross and take the left route. We were felling very tired and just praying for the trail to be end. After walking for another hour, I barely remember how I passed my last hour before reaching the village. I just remember that I was walking with my team with a flash light. The guide finally opened his mouth for a news. But I couldn’t reach to a conclusion was it a good or bad news. He pointed a hill just infront of us which height is about 50 ft and the village is on the top of the hill. The hill was pretty straight and there was pebbles on the climbing way. We were slipping and climbing again. After walking for 8 to 9 hours it became almost impossible to climb that 50 feet. We were supporting each other to climb and finally we all made up to the top. We entered to our room we would all sleep in the same room. It was a large room almost 30 people can easily fit into it. The room was also made of bamboo. The owner started to cook our dinner. We wash ourselves. Then everyone was just lying in the room. We didn’t have any strength left to move a muscles. After half an hour they served the dinner. Rice, mashed potatoes, chicken and pulse. We ate like we were hungry fir years. I ate four plates of rice. No one scored under 2. After the dinner we were felling pretty energetic. Almost everyone felt asleep. I went out of the room sitting by the fire and was talking with some villagers. They all could understand bangla and some of them could speak fluent enough to understand. The owner offered me a glass of tea and accepted it cordially. Another two of my friends also joined me within this time. Just imagine you and some of your friends are sitting by the fire at night in the top of the hill. The sky above you is full of thousands of stars and you could just hear the sound of wood burning and drink tea with it.

After passing about a hour we entered into the room. Took a pillow and blanket and lie down. As the room was fully made of bamboo the cold was entering anaioumosly. The blanket barely could resist the cold. I then wore my full pant and jacket and was fighting with cold. My weak body when fall asleep I didn’t know.
I woke up hearing children gossiping. Everyone was still sleeping. I quietly came out of the room. The village children were playing outside. Today we would go to Amiakhum trail.
