Welcome back to my blog This time I will share a little story, of course it's still about nature, but this time it's not about its beauty or its potential. But I will also discuss the animals that live in that nature. This time we are talking about a large wild mammal that currently really needs our protection and attention. The animal is a Sumatran elephant.
The Sumatran elephant is a large mammal endemic to Sumatra. These animals only grow and breed on the island of Sumatra, one part of the island in Indonesia. This large animal has only its natural habitat on the island of Sumatra. This animal is actually very beneficial for the sustainability of the forest ecosystem. Because it is an animal that is categorized as one of the animals called umbrella because it eats a tree that is already large so that the sun can still enter the low plant because it is no longer covered by the tall leaf branches because it has been eaten by the elephant and this animal is also very beneficial for the sustainability of the forest ecosystem because it is an animal
the moment that sows the seed of the plant every time it excretes in every place it roams for it to eat. And with a very wide distance per day an elephant is able to spread plant seeds wherever it crosses. So that's why these animals are very beneficial for the sustainability of the forest ecosystem.
The original habitat of this large animal is spread across several provinces in Sumatra, namely Aceh, North Sumatra, Jambi and Lampung. Even though their habitat is in several provinces, the threat of large animals is very large, ranging from conflicts between animals and humans, illegal hunting, illegal logging, illegal logging and clearing of forest land for community plantations. Various threats of extinction are always increasing every year so that the Sumatran elephant population is increasingly threatened. According to a survey by the Institute, the population of Sumatran elephants is now in a very threatened phase. Although the government continues to make efforts to improve the preservation of this large animal by all means and efforts. Sumatran elephants are our collective responsibility to preserve them, not just the government. To start small, let us both care for the ecosystem in which the animal lives. Let's act from small things, namely not littering and always educating the people closest to us that protecting and preserving ecosystems and animals is very important for our survival.
I took this moment when I visited one of the Sumatran elephant conservation centers in one of the provinces of Aceh in 2019.
