The clock struck noon and I decided it was the perfect time to take my son out for a meal. Our destination was a quaint little cafe I had heard about, intriguingly named "Hommori." This was no ordinary eatery; it was a Japanese-style cafe nestled in the heart of a sprawling rubber plantation. The idea of such an exotic setting piqued my curiosity and promised an adventure for the afternoon.
Given the cafe's remote location, I relied on Google Maps to guide us there. The route spanned approximately 17 kilometers from our home, a journey that would take us through scenic countryside landscapes and winding roads. As we set off, the excitement of discovering a new place added a sense of anticipation to our drive.
When we arrived at the "Hommori" Cafe, we were greeted by the sight of a charming, small Japanese-style wooden house. It was nestled perfectly in the middle of a rubber plantation, creating a serene and picturesque setting that felt like a hidden sanctuary. The unique location added to the cafe's allure, making our journey feel like a quest that had led us to a hidden gem.
The cafe was surrounded by a tranquil pond, its still waters reflecting the greenery and the structure itself. Walkways extended from the cafe in all four directions, allowing visitors to stroll across the pond and take in the beautiful surroundings from every angle. These pathways, crafted with traditional Japanese design elements, added an extra layer of elegance and harmony to the scene.
As we walked along the walkway cement panels planks, the gentle sound of water lapping against the edges of the pond and the rustling of the rubber trees created a soothing symphony. The atmosphere was peaceful and calming, a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Entering the cafe, we were enveloped by the warm, inviting ambiance. The interior, adorned with delicate Japanese decor and wooden furnishings, maintained the traditional aesthetic that complemented the exterior perfectly. We found a cozy spot by the window, where we could continue to admire the picturesque pond and the lush plantation beyond.
The "Hommori" Cafe is not only enchanted with its picturesque setting but also with its delightful offerings. Specializing in drinks, bakery items, and authentic Japanese food, the cafe promised a culinary journey that matched its serene ambiance.
After placing our order, we had some time to explore and capture the beauty of the place. I wandered around, snapping pictures from various corners of the restaurant. Each angle revealed something unique, from the intricate wooden decor inside to the lush, green views outside. The cafe also featured an outdoor zone, which was a terrace extending gracefully from the main building. This terrace was furnished with low tables and comfortable cushions for sitting, reminiscent of traditional Japanese seating arrangements.
We decided to sit outside on the terrace to fully immerse ourselves in the tranquil atmosphere. The setup truly evoked the feeling of being in Japan, with the serene pond and the surrounding rubber trees enhancing the ambiance. The gentle breeze, the sound of nature, and the beautifully set tables created a perfect setting for a leisurely meal.
As we waited for our food, we relaxed on the cushions, enjoying the peaceful environment. The terrace offered a direct view of the pond, where the water gently lapped against the edges, creating a soothing backdrop for our meal. The combination of the natural beauty and the traditional decor transported us, making us feel as though we were dining in a quaint Japanese countryside cafe.
Our time at Hommori Cafe was a delightful escape, a blend of culinary delights and serene surroundings that made for an unforgettable experience. Whether indoors or out on the terrace, every aspect of the cafe was designed to provide a moment of calm and a taste of Japan, right in the middle of a rubber plantation.
As the queue machine chimed, signaling that our order was ready, I made my way back into the cozy interior of the cafe. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the tantalizing scent of Japanese spices filled the air, adding to the anticipation of our meal.
At the counter, I placed our order: a comforting matcha latte, my personal favorite, and a tantalizing salmon teriyaki rice bowl. My son, opting for a simpler fare, requested a serving of crispy French fries accompanied by a refreshing glass of water.
With our drinks and food in hand, I returned to our spot on the terrace, where my son eagerly awaited our return. The matcha latte was a vibrant shade of green, frothy and inviting, while the salmon teriyaki rice bowl exuded a mouthwatering aroma that made my stomach rumble with anticipation. The French fries, golden and crispy, promised a satisfying crunch with every bite.
We savored each mouthful, the flavors dancing on our taste buds as we soaked in the tranquil atmosphere of the cafe. The matcha latte provided a perfect balance of earthy sweetness, while the tender salmon, glazed in rich teriyaki sauce, melted in our mouths. Even the simple pleasure of crunchy fries brought a smile to my son's face as he dipped them in ketchup and savored each bite.
As we enjoyed our meal, we took in the beauty of our surroundings, the serene pond reflecting the late afternoon sunlight, and the rustling of the rubber trees providing a soothing soundtrack to our conversation. It was a moment of pure contentment, shared between a father and his son, in a place that felt like a slice of Japan tucked away in the countryside.
After finishing our meal and lingering a while longer to bask in the peaceful ambiance, we reluctantly bid farewell to Hommori Cafe. With satisfied appetites and hearts full of fond memories, we headed home, already looking forward to our next visit to this enchanting oasis in the middle of the rubber plantation.
